will I gain any money since I own the most expensive yacht if I swap it for the cheapest one? I know it worked like that with apartments, I downgraded apartments and gained 200k

If you trade in for a smaller one you get some money back. About half the difference in price?

And you never gain money. You loose money. If you upgrade in the future you need to pay more.

So think about it.

You free up some cash but loose capital stock value.

I'm just downgrading everything and selling all my cars so I can reroll a new character. No plans to ever buy a yacht again.

No you wont. You upgrading the same yacht, not trading it.

Downgrading the 8m yatch will give you swap value of 4m, if you trade it for the cheapest yatch(6m isn't really cheap), you will still use up 2m. Therefore, you will only lose the money you invested if you want to reroll a new character on that same slot. I sold all the cars on my rank 9 char and then downgraded an apartment to a 2 car garage and gained money, I now have him at 120 by copying the other character's rank. If it is possible to trade in a yatch, for say, a dinghy (0.1m), then you can gain some 3.9m, I don't know if this one can be done though.

Nope the super yatch can only be modified at a fee.
