How common is a false positive ban?
Gifted my friend a copy so we could play GTA Online. Within a few hours he was suddenly given the ban hammer and they said he can play again on the 13th. They mentioned something about modding the game client but we were only cruising around, robbing stores, doing jobs, the usual things you'd do on GTA Online. I did take him to my yacht to get some weapons that spawned when he was rank 3.

Looking around the net I see some other people were getting the same issue at times turning out to be a false positive. Is this a common issue for many people and is there a way to get it removed quicker?

I know him enough that he despises the idea of cheating even if it's a single player game. So I'm unsure what could have caused the ban to trigger. I was thinking maybe it was the weapons from the yacht and then making $10k+ with each job we did with Lester (and we did a lot of them) but it baffles me on what the cause is.

i believe, it is not like Battlefield , that you have 2 folders for online and single player.

so i guess with client files they mean the whole game folder of yours..
or .exe, dll files.

and then maybe instead if making fingerprints of individual files , they made also a finger print of game folder and/or serials.

anyways fingerprint check failed , and some client files are corrupt.

could be even main folder fingerprint has changes , because you added a letter in a text file.
or added files to the folder.

i dunno how the security checks the files or what.

but if i got the message , and there is no seperate online folderr.
then i would reinstall the whole game to fix it for sure.

don't do forbidden mods with this game (folder) in steam.

While not nearly as prevalent as it seems, given the number of topics there are, it does happen from time to time. The rabid mob who insists anyone who has caught a ban MUST have been hacking seem to like to ignore that even rockstar has admitted that it's occurred.

I have no idea how commen it is as rockstar wont even talk about the problem of people getting bans when they know they never broke any TOS.

It happend to me back in AUG. I got 1 ban and have no idea why i was banned. I googled around and seen that it happens to loads of people.
Someone has set up a steam help group for people who belive they recived a false ban and since AUG its got over 200 memebers.
Its a intresting read if you want to know about false bans.

200 members ? I hope that's not supposed to be any kind of proof.

I would safely assume that amongst the thousands that got banned, you can easily find 200 who will try anything to get back to playing rather than having to buy the game again.

I mean if i make a group for -insert any topic here-, it would be a miracle if i didn't find 200 people to join it on the internet...

edit: or you could just make 200 steam accounts and do it yourself.. etc

Bunty is ordered to carry out the crazy plans of his Australian teenaged guru who was banned from the Steam Community and who recently wrote to his sect members:

"@Original1993

I was banned 4 times total, spanning 2 months.

Every time I went back to the Rockstar support forums, it was the same couple of losers abusing people looking for help with their bans, and spreading demonstrably false info.

They literally spend all their spare time on those forums, which is weird since there's no sense of community or real discussions happening... it is a support forum, after all.

Anyway, I'm banned from those forums, otherwise I'd be posting the link to this group in every single post about bans."

Its proof that in just over a month rockstars automated ban system has banned over 200 people who dont know why they got a ban.

Lets just see how big the group is in a few months time. You and rockstar wont beable to fob them all off. At some point you will have to use logical thinking.

Never believe your friends saying they don't cheat, I know by experience that a lot of people would cheat and just lie about it as soon as they get a game

Only other reason I could think is if a background app triggered there anti-cheat system?
Big Boss Oct 3, 2016 @ 12:24pm
It's not common. The tiny minority of people voicin false bans have yet to prove innocence. Stories change, people have shown them to be on now cheat sites, lamest excuses such as getting banned for ps3 controller. Just people trying to get attiention. Don't break tos and you won't get banned period.

No worries. You'll be fine.

Most likely cause, in my opinion. A program running in the background may be causing this.

Except it's impossible to prove innocence when said task requires proving you haven't done anything. Which is impossible since you can't prove that you haven't done anything because there would be zero evidence for it!

And how are they supposed to prove their innocence? Especially if R* isn't going to give any evidence or reasons for a ban in the first place?
