The point is that the framerate is hit harder for almost no visual gain.
Does it *really* seem pointless?

and direct sound.
the game has trouble to communicate with card drivers.
the game is older windows , and older directx for that windows.
directx websetup , updates DX9.0c components
redist visuals 2012 update 4
but some people have audio device issues, or MSAA problems.
i turn MSAA off in game, to get rid of Bug.
then i enable the Anti Aliasing override in my nvidia driver inspector program
and use no transparency. (makes lesss sharp)
too much post process effects create blur too.
i DON'T like nvidia's predifined FXAA usage , or even TXAA with post process.

dxdiag in runscreen will show directx diagnostic .
direct 3D , needs to be enabled .
and still need workaround for the MSAA.
