PSA: Don't use MSAA + Grass Quality on High-Ultra
The grass in this game is bugged with MSAA enabled, instead use the Frame Scaling Mode option in the Advanced Graphics settings.

How is the grass bugged?
Well, MSAA makes the grass transparent and incredibly sparse. Here are some screenshots to prove it.

There's also a bigger performance hit when using MSAA and Grass Quality on any setting higher than "Normal", in comparison to the Frame Scaling Mode setting.

Using Frame Scaling Mode at 1.250x, 1.500x, and 1.750x will look the same (roughly) as 2xMSAA, 4xMSAA, and 8xMSAA respectively. So that means...

1.250x = 2xMSAA

1.500x = 4xMSAA

1.750x = 8xMSAA

I hope this was helpful.

Please post your thoughts.

the fps issue is not a bug but just the way msaa works, when msaa is enabled the game will apply it to every individual grass blade which will give a massive fps hit. Using frame scaling it just upscales the game so that hit is not present.

That's not the main point I wanted to make as to why MSAA + Grass is bugged, but yeah.

The point is that the framerate is hit harder for almost no visual gain.

Grass setting above normal seems rly pointless... and it kills fps

Does it *really* seem pointless?
Depends on if ur spend much time in the forest hehe... but rly, its big impact on fps... I have 980Ti and fps impact is very noticable at 2560 x 1440

Well the only time it can have an impact on the FPS is when you're in the forest, where it's rendered...

Back to conversating about the OP, though...please.

If ur flying in area and grass is set higher than normal also cause impact...

You're arguing semantics, you'd still be in the forest and grassy areas regardless of flying or not.

my thoughts are , directx does the direct 3D (D3D)
and direct sound.
the game has trouble to communicate with card drivers.

the game is older windows , and older directx for that windows.
directx websetup , updates DX9.0c components
redist visuals 2012 update 4

but some people have audio device issues, or MSAA problems.
i turn MSAA off in game, to get rid of Bug.
then i enable the Anti Aliasing override in my nvidia driver inspector program
and use no transparency. (makes lesss sharp)
too much post process effects create blur too.

i DON'T like nvidia's predifined FXAA usage , or even TXAA with post process.

dxdiag in runscreen will show directx diagnostic .
direct 3D , needs to be enabled .
and still need workaround for the MSAA.
