Returning to same *public* session after a heist, contract, job, etc?
When I am playing in a public session with friends and I enter one of those activities that take you into a special kind of "activity session", upon completing I am not returned to the same session I started from -even when it still has plenty of free space. Instead I get dumped into a completely random session (after a very long load time) and have to do a Join Friend and go through yet another set of lid screens to return to the desired session. Quite annoying.

Is there a way to configure things in the settings or activity setup screen so that I return to the same session I started from (assuming it still has space, of course).

If you are playing heists with friends, why tf you are doing it from public? Invite only not only ensures that you spawn at the same session (unless some connection errors still happen, you can get dropped out alone ofc), but the loading times are faster as well.

Because I play with a crew (or actually a multi-crew clan) and we like to play in the same session.

Plus, this effect of being dumped into a RANDOM pubbie session happens with all kinds of activities. For example, this week I have been doing the auto shop contracts solo, but the finale operates like a mini-heist, so when I do the finale solo (to learn it or for the extra challenge) I am yanked out of my session and dumped into a total pubbie session at the end.

It would not matter if the pubbie load time was fast as I could quickly switch back, but the total random pubs take forever to load.

So back to the question... Is there a way to return to the session you started from instead of being dumped into a random one?

Game by default attempts to put you back in the same session. Do not alt tab, especially do not use any overlays while loading. But if you still keep timing out, nothing you can do.

I never got a timeout message after these things, and NEVER, not even once have I been placed back in the same public session I started from.

Solo sessions I think yes. Invite Only or Closed Crew I can't remember.

does the same thing happen to your friends ?

You don't need to get time out warning. You just time out from joining same session as your buddies and game searches for new one. It would take multiple failures to get actual warning and be kicked to SP. And just FYI, game only forces you to the same session as host, it still will most likely be a random session if you started from public.

yeah, that is the issue, I am not host of my crew's session, which is what I'd want to return to.

Oh well... standard R* sub-par programming :P

The fact that the private type session are hidden already tells you lots about R*.

I exclusively play with my command or alone. Every single time I start the game, after that huge and annoying load time, I'm trown into a public session.

Then I must go to Creator, confirm I'm leaving the session, wait another load, press start, change tabs 5 times to reach GTA online tab and them I have the command only session to be made, I click it and have another long load time.

Wouldn't all be 100 times simpler as soon as you start GTA Online you get a menu asking which session you want to join?

A menu with:
Public
Invite Only
Friends Only
Command Only

Aside that, why when I start services like the IAA missions from an Invite only session, suddenly I'm on a public session where randoms shows up to do the mission I want to do alone? (Yes, there's the option to chose to be closed, but it's by default open when you start anything and you can't change it if any person joins the thing 1 second after you start the thing and you can't kick the person out).

Start story mode instead of online and select from there. Also why go to creator?> They have added ability to switch to invite only directly from public. Though it's still better to load to SP instead.

A clumsy and obscure workaround isn't a real fix.

It is still slow and cumbersome, and something that not even a beginner programmer with some common sense would design so poorly.

Besides, that is an issue with "entering the game" that's been broken for years. The issue on this thread is what happens when the same pile of manure design yanks you out of your preferred session and dumps you into R*'s favorite cesspool - the rando public session.

If you insist starting jobs from public sessions then why complain how game puts you back to pub? Tell your crew to move to invite only/crew/friends session and problem will solve itself.

The issue is not returning to a public session... what I am asking is to always return TO THE SAME SESSION I started from, so long as it has space.

It should be trivial:
- If I start from Solo, always return me to the same solo. Never drop me on anything else.
- If I start from Invite Only, always return me to the SAME invite Only, not a new one... as my Invite Only could have players that didn't join in the particular activity but I'll want to join later in another activity.
- If I start from Closed Crew, always return me to the SAME Closed Crew.
- If I start from a Public, always return me to the SAME Public.

It should not be rocket science, as I said even a beginner with common sense would understand this... but clearly waaaay to complex to understand for R* developers.

Besides, I play with a clan of crews that includes over 1000-2000 players. Yeah, let's tell them all to figure out whose Invite Only session is the right one to join at any given time. Those large clans have very well established methods that already make the best possible outcomes from the lousy tools R* gives us.

Yeah I can see that.
All the group must be on invite only session
