No sound after the Rockstar logo (No fix found online)
So... I uninstalled GTA V a long time ago to make room for other stuff but reinstalled the other day to finally finish the story.

It ran fine the first time I started it up but second time there was no sound after the Rockstar logo in the menus or the game itself. I always close the game down from the menu, so it's not like it closed incorrectly.

Before anybody says "Reinstall DirectX", check this out:

I went online and found a bunch of different fixes in various forums, including Steam and went on some Youtube tutorials too. Everybody said the same thing: Install DirectX 9 and then DirectX11, which did nothing for me. Another said to run the DirectX executable from within the game files, that didn't help. Another said to update my sound card drivers, didn't work. I validated the Game cache - nothing. I ran the game as an admin - no luck. I ran the game through CPUCores, didn't work. I even took apart the PC to look at the sound card for damage but everything looked fine.

Two things I tried worked as temporary fixes:

I reinstalled the game - this actually fixed the sound problems for the first time I booted the game up but not the second or third time. I then used Reimage, which has always come through for me in the past. That found some errors in my PC's system files and fixed them for me - this worked for the first time I booted up the game but the problem has persisted since.

Obviously there is something going on where running the game creates an error in my system files which effects play from then on and considering reinstalling DirectX has worked for everybody in the forums, it likely is corrupting the DirectX files.

Beyond that, I'm fresh out of ideas and ready to just give up on ever finishing the game. If anybody has had this problem, fixed it (besides using the fixes mentioned above) and can share how they did it, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Running gtav a 2nd.. 3rd.. 4th time after install shouldn't be changing any system files - or anything for that matter. Gtav however is notoriously bad with multiple audio devices, software-based devices, extra audio software, etc etc.

I'd open systray speaker - playback/recording devices and disable anything you aren't actively using for gtav. If that doesn't work - I'd open devicemanager - sound/game controllers - and disable anything that isn't your sound card... nvidia hd audio.. razer.. virtual audio cable.. anything - except your single sound card - and work from there.

I would also open up my documents - RENAME rockstar games - rockstar games-old
(this will wipe all your settings/configs - so when you restart - you get defaults)
(your saves will be in this folder under gtav / profiles / <profile name> - so don't delete it)

This worked. Thank you so much!

Necro Post - I had a similar problem. For some reason, my bluetooth headphones were registering twice, as two separate audio devices. I found this after right clicking on the systray speaker icon, opening sounds and switching to the Playback tab. I tested them both and sound came out both times, though the sound out of one was of vastly inferior quality. I disabled that instance, then tested the better instance. As soon as I did that, I had sound from GTA V immediately. Through this whole ordeal, the headphones worked fine with other applications. I hope this helps.

I found a fix in another post. I'm using Anker Soundcore Boost bluetooth speaker. The fix was to disable the microphone in the Recording Tab of sound settings. This worked for me.
