low fps with gtx 1060?
i have a EVGA gtx 1060 3gb SC and im struggling with it in just this game. GPU utilization sometimes doesnt hit 99%. Most settings are maximum except Grass (very high) and all AA is 2x. Other benchmarks online show 60-80fps with some drops in the 50's. my card averages 52 or 53 and fluctuates wildely from 40-60.

My rig:
Intel core i7-2600 @3.4ghz
16gb ddr3 ram
Game is on ssd
Windows 7

Msi afterburner indicates my cpu usage is around 60 to 70 percent with some rare times at 85 to 90%, thought those times dont coorelate to fps drops. I have tried turning v sync on and off disabled AA and lowered some settings, and there is rarely a difference. The fluctuations are borderline unplayable. Any help would be appreciated.

reduce grass to high, very high grass is fps killer . u can keep other features very high to ultra except texture due to the low memory of 3GB version. Reduce or completely disable "extended shadow distance" in advanced setting and better don't touch "frame scaling mode". this would help
junkevil 15 ENE 2018 a las 11:11 p. m.
try and turn grass down to high, grass eats your frames.

Thanks, will do, but why do some people with the similar setups have better fps? Is gta unoptimized for some setups?

"Other benchmarks online show 60-80fps"
You presume too much.

1st thing to consider is that like Fallout 4, GTA V also aggressively answers to system memory performance - you have a regular i7-2600 (non-K), which is already a very dated ~7 year old processor that despite keeping up with integer performance (more or less), has a very weak memory subsystem that will be limited by its locked multiplier, if you have DDR3-1333 then this is more than a plausible enough explanation to your erratic performance. also, if you're running two 8 GB sticks, ensure that your memory is running in dual channel rather than single channel (one stick on A1 and one on B1, rather than A1 and A2).

That and the 3 GB 1060 really is short on resources, so you'll want to run your textures at most on high, shader quality on normal, reflection quality no more than high and avoid using PCSS shadows. Like mentioned earlier, hold on with grass, shadow resolution and tessellation amount too.
Thank you! However, no matter what i do, i have this issue. I have turned all graphics settings to the minimum and i still have fps stutter, though not as severe as before.

To offer some insight, it may be your CPU. i7 2600 cpu's are severly outdated, you also want to make sure that if the CPU has integrated graphics, that nvidia is using your 1070 and not the integrated graphics.

MSI Afterburner is a well known agressor towards GTAV, it's been known to severly drop performance.

Along with what other posters have said as well, ensure that your RAM is bridged and not running on a single channel, and ensure that MSAA is reduced along with grass settings.

If you have not done so already, you may want to try to do a clean install of your graphics drivers, and not trying to pry here, but what hertz output are you sending GTAV to?

Finally; GTAV is poorly optimized and poorly ported for the PC, they really didn't do a good job of porting it over from console, so you may (more then likely will) have to sacrafice textures to keep your gpu from overloading, GTAV is way too demanding on CPU's and GPU's.

Best of luck.

for one, i use MSI afterburner and never had fps issues and i'm on a 980 so i don't understand where you get this "agressor" thing from.
second gtav is not a port its a parallel.

So much wrong.... so so so much wrong in one post.

Same, AB won't hurt performance, and I disagree that GTA V is poorly ported... it can run even on Intel graphics from 2012 with PS3-quality, just don't shove everything on ultra and blame bad optimization when your rig is at fault here. This game has been beautifully upgraded for 4K ultra graphics for future generations of hardware, with Volta cards you might just get to experience 4K60 full settings with this game.
sadly, it doesnt matter what settings i put, min max, or in between, i cant maintain 60fps, 40-60 fluctuations constantly...

Well have you already taken the generic troubleshooting steps (driver reinstall, with DDU), opened your rig and ensured that your memory sticks are in dual channel and that they're running at the speed they were designed for? (or at least as high as your motherboard and CPU allow for)? Other than this there's no reason other than software conflicts that your rig would perform that bad.

I've an old 2600(K) PC around which my brother still uses, although his PC is very much overclocked, and it plays decently enough with one GTX 980, which granted, craps all over the 3GB 1060 but it's not like the difference is night and day either.
Im gonna do a complete driver reinstall, and all my ram sticks are in the right spots. I have played the witcher 3, rainbow six siege (which really pushes the cpu quite a lot) and some other games without this issue, this is why i defaulted to thinking gta had poor optimization.
cruste 17 ENE 2018 a las 11:19 p. m.
rainbow six siege is as hardware demanding as cs go source :steamfacepalm:

The gta engine has to create a whole city full of npcs and up 32 players

I finished story mode on a 2012 laptop with nvidia gt630m

optimization is good enough for what it is.

hello people, late update, i reinstalled gta 5, ussed ccleaner and im still not getting this game to utilize my gpu. I also see this issue is more of a gta online thing, single player its a solid 60.

hey man how's it going? i have a msi gp62mvr with 6gb 1060, i could go 50-60 fps but it has to be on high performance, which makes my laptop goes to 92 degrees. So i set it to balance again, but the thing is, even with the medium settings, i only get 30-40 degrees. If you have anything helps, pleaes reply. Thanks
