GTA V not launching, only running in background
GTA V has worked for me since I've gotten it until now. Now when I launch it, it only runs in the background. Social Club launches, logs in, and only opens in the background. The game does not launch, I don't receive any crash error messages and I receive message sanying that the game is already open when attempting to launch the game again. I am only able to close it out via Task Manager. I've used mods (lfspdr). I've also confirmed that my OS and drivers are up to date. I've tried reinstalling the game several times already. I've checked the integrity of the game files as well and not sure what else can be done for this. This is only happening to GTA V on Steam. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd give this link a read. And the 5 steps link inside? I'd do. Yes - even if "you already did".
If you still have problems... post step 5 - logs/crash reports. You may need more specific fixes.

When you tab to it does it run? Does it crash? Does it do nothing? Have you used mods? Installed anything else? Changed/updated your OS? Drivers? Is this is a case of clicking around after launching gtav and launching minimized?

EDIT - 'because' someone bumped a 2017 thread -
A 'more recent' link of info/help/things to check/test -

edit - the above info again covers the aforementioned bumps - removing said files, and other 'tweaks'/configurations. /sigh

I also have the same problm i fix it.. Problm is Documents/rockstar games/ settings. Xml this was the main problm dlete this and open the game it work
Dude, that sounds super frustrating. I've had similar issues with other games in the past, so I feel your pain. Here are a few things you can try:

1. Verify the game files again: Sometimes the game files can become corrupted, even after verifying them. It's worth trying to verify them again just to be sure.

2. Disable any mods: I know you mentioned that you've used mods in the past, so it's possible that they could be causing the issue. Try disabling all mods and see if the game launches properly.

3. Run the game in compatibility mode: Sometimes running a game in compatibility mode can help it launch properly. Right-click on the game in your Steam library, click Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, and try running it in compatibility mode for an earlier version of Windows.

4. Run the game as an administrator: Right-click on the game in your Steam library, click Properties, go to the Local Files tab, and click Browse Local Files. Right-click on GTAV.exe, click Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, and check "Run this program as an administrator".

5. Disable antivirus software: Sometimes antivirus software can interfere with game launches. Try disabling your antivirus software temporarily and see if the game launches properly.

Hopefully, one of these solutions works for you. Good luck, man!

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
