IP Was Leaked.
so i was playing gta 5 online nothing unusual and i was typing in chat to some chill guys, then i noticed that i had said something in chat i didn't type, then someone started typing out my address country and even pasted my IP, i said "♥♥♥♥ that" and promptly closed my game and removed my credit card (just in case), but now i'm concerned that he may have some account details so i'm kinda paranoid any tips?

(Honestly the replies to this post have been worse then if someone actually came to my house and shot me in the face, not all replies but most, also i didnt know this was a common accurence, now that i do and understand what this was i no longer care)

So no real worries as mentioned above. just laugh at these people when they mention your name or rough location. they can find your ISP location but thats it. not your physical location. just be careful making your info public on facebook lets say, cause if your steam name leads them to your facebook, allows them to find more personal info, this is your main risk with your IP info being leaked. so keep gaming and social media accounts and names totally separate.

your ip is public information, if you don't want it shared get a vpn.

so leave the session when that happens. why are you even talking to modders.

Your IP is available and posted to other players, but it's hidden in the data transfer stream, it is not typically visible under MOST circumstances.

What happened to you is a script kiddie decided to scare you away from the game for a while, rather than just crashing you.

As for the "talking with your name", that's such a common thing that I didn't think anyone even paid attention to it anymore. All he's doing is telling the server that he's you for this one message, it's actually nothing to be worried about, boo.

Really, the worst thing they can do to you at any point is a DDOS, but, hey, wouldn't you know? that's a federal offense and carries a quarter million dollar fine and 10 years in the 'pen.

Rockstar doesn't give a f*ck about privacy and shares your IP with everyone in your lobby. Sometimes I get DDOS attacks from salty kids thanks to that. Only way to avoid it is to use a VPN.

Call your ISP to change your IP if it's static.

Until then, never play in public session or piss cheater off ever again.

Well, that's not the ONLY way. Your phone is remarkably immune to DDOS, and they're also autologged and filed with the FBI when the attacks come through. If it's a consistent problem for you, you can do a little trolling back by turning on your phone hot spot if you have infinite data. Get rid of the problem permamently.

Banned by rockstar, spend $12 and get a new account.
Arrested and thrown in a cell? Priceless. (for you.)

Yes, of course they do.
That's how the internet protocol (IP) works.
And if you want a decentralized peer-to-peer network like GTAO, then every other player in the session needs to know every IP address.

It's ok. Don't worry.
Funny enough, these kind of things, as scary as they seem, are pretty normal in this game which is very saddening and impressive.

Modders have access to many stuff,
from something as silly as:
putting you in a cage,
constantly killing you death after death,
spawning things around you,
controlling your character,
teleporting your character,
freezing you,
disabling your vehicle,
kicking you out of your house or property,
spawning an UFO right on top of you which blocks your vision totally and doesn't disappear even if you go to a different session or exit to Story Mode unless you completely exit the game,

to something more sinister and freaky like:
killing other players with your name,
chatting with your name,
kicking everyone from the game,
spawning vehicles that HAVEN'T been released to the game yet (which were meant to be available from the next upcoming update),
even having access to information of who reported who,
and most of all, completely removing the report file which makes the report system useless.

I once reported a modder for cheating and he said in the chat,
"Eclipse, why did you report me lol That won't work because I can just remove it"
and started messing with my character so I left.
See, those are just a tiny portion of what they can do.
So yeah, modders don't mess around in this game and it's very saddening how
this is an everyday thing for a game that has hundred thousands of player every single day.

But they can't do stuff like taking away your money, property, or vehicle so you don't have to worry about that.
Closest thing they can do is kicking you while you are modifying your car in LS Customs.

And like the guys above said, your IP address is stored in the game, it's just not visible for players because it doesn't have to.
Modders can abuse this, but it doesn't mean they really hacked into your PC or anything. So no need to worry.

if there's a modder, just find a new session.

Connection IP means nothing.

That's like a 2010's urban legend that VPNs exploit to this day to make some money out of fear.

No sh*t Sherlock. But nobody wants to play peer-to-peer, yet R* designs it like that anyways. Because they don't give a f*ck.

All modders can see your IP address. They can also see who has the modded software and who is not a modder.

My friend uses modded prog and the lobby was full. The only person who did not have modding prog was me :P
