When I launch, the Rockstar launcher boots up, then just goes away. This is actually an improvement.
Is anyone familiar with this issue? Any links to info on this is appreciated. More details below.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Previously the Rockstar launcher would lock up during load and remain frozen until force quit.

I disabled Microsoft Onedrive sync to troubleshoot Starcraft II as it was having launch problems of its own. This solved the SC II issue and the timing suggests it also changed the GTA Rockstar launcher so that it no longer locks up, but I still can't get GTA to actually launch.

Anyone familiar with this issue?

To test whether it's isolated to GTA V or Rockstar in general I installed L.A. Noire and was able to launch that without issue. I'm not positive that they use the same Rockstar launcher/social club though, perhaps someone could help shed some light on that.

I also have this problem, after installing it, I launch the game, story mode, then loading... crash

I'm not even making it to story mode. None of the GTA launch screen even comes up. It loads Rockstar, then vanishes.

did you update graphics card or reinstall because I tried that but nothing

about 2 months ago I adopted the procedure of ..
when GTA5 takes a dump (usually after one of their weekly events) I uninstall and REMOVE THE FOLDERS for RS Social Club and the Launcher. Then reinstall both. The game does a Sync with the Cloud and I'm back in business. I run GTA5 on WIN 10 and WIN 11, I seldom have to fiddle with my WIN 10 install, but quite often the WIN 11 install requires a kick in the Butt.
Just sayin'

Same here - reinstalled - same problem - it keeps asking me to install some sort of game hook. Tried that before the reinstall and same thing.
DanloJr Mar 25, 2022 @ 1:54am
I keep getting an error "script hook error v critical error" so I've posted raised a ticket with Rockstar.

@danlojr- how is that 'same here?' - not even close. You have mods installed. Remove'm. The game isn't trying to install it, and never will. It was placed there by someone and it wants to update itself. Most likely - support is going to tell you to uninstall gtav, then go and delete the steam/steamapps/common/grand theft auto v folder and reinstall (or wherever it was installed). You don't move forward without removing all the mods, updating them 'so they work', or fixing any other issues 'with' the mods - and you've just left vanilla install land.

You can skip the reinstall by cleaning the folder manually -

@psykoteky
but if you just got a new PC, and install the games without any mod , but the problem persists ?
psykoteky Mar 25, 2022 @ 2:40am
^ then you would be completely lying.
(and I am talking in reference to 'scripthook' errors - what I -originally- posted for)
(got to love 'me too' threads/posts and they are all different - and here comes the deluge of information being confused across different problems)

In your case - new pc, only rules out a few things - and adds others - and can also mean absolutely jacksquat depending when you got it, and what has been done on it since. You'd be better off providing my docs / rockstar games / launcher / launcher.log - as it may have some error codes and system information we can work with. There are 2398457329847234 ways for gtav to crash. Missing media feature pack if on N/KN windows, vcredists/directx issues, lack of admin (this includes all .exe's involved), usb/audio devices, drivers, AV/security, other background programs/overlays, problems with onedrive, controlled folder access, mandatory ASLR, issues with my documents / rockstar games folder, the install of gtav, corrupt save games... and more. -.-

In your case I'd probably start with these 2 links -
(after you produce a launcher.log, more info on that in 2nd link below) -

-and now breakfast time /gone. /goodluck.

-edit: Yes, as mentioned below- special characters can cause issues. However, that info should come to light via the contents of the launcher.log and if any extra hoops are necessary.

you may want to start with renaming your windows profile.
stop using fancy special characters to look like a hacker, if you don't understand the basics.

it is from 2015 but R* had multiple times issues especially with foreign languages in the past.

Rockstar is currently working on a fix for the issue but, if you’d prefer not to wait, the publisher explains that you’ll need to create a new Administrator User Account for your PC “that only includes letters A to Z, a to z or numbers 0-9 from the basic Roman alphabet.”

Doesn't seem like anyone else here is having quite the same issue I was, but I did get mine working.

Not sure why it worked this time, but after yet another attempt at uninstalling/reinstalling failed to yield positive results, I then had steam verify the files yet again, and this time it found two errors. It fired right up after that.

I guess the lesson here is, if something doesn't work, just keep trying the same thing until it does? That doesn't sound like good advice. But it worked here, so whatever.

Good luck everyone!

@Lucas.Maximus

how did you get the brother in ownership/checking the integrity of the game files?
psykoteky Mar 25, 2022 @ 2:05pm
Rightclick gtav, properties, local files - verify files. /smh. Was also mentioned in my link(s), still isn't a launcher.log with useful info, and just a 'hope it works' approach (it very well may, and it very well may not - as stated, there are 2389473249829 possible reasons for gtav to fail to work correctly). Yea, I'm out.
