edit meta files
So I've experimenting gyro aiming with my Dualshock 4 in games like Destiny 2 or BFV with success, now I've set my eyes on GTA V so here's what I did: in steam's configuration I made the gyro sensor active when I press L1, in GTA V I wanted to map the weapon wheel to L2 and have weapon aim be mapped to L1 but GTA V doesn't allow you to edit controller bindings. I found out I can use OpenIV to view and edit GTA V files so I decided to go to GTA V > update > update.rpf > common > data > control to edit standard.meta but apparently I can't do that because it corrupts the game.

So I wondering if any of you guys had to do something like I did or knows how to edit meta files with out corrupting the game.

Using openIV to modify the files enters modded game territory. If you're just playing storymode - you can keep trying what you are - but you have to correctly install asimanager and openiv.asi so those modified files actually load. Going online like that is a no-go.

What?! I can get in trouble for doing something as simple as changing the functionality of 2 buttons? That is some bull... I'll think of a different configuration.

You normally create a mods folder so that your original game files stay intact. Not a big deal if you corrupt a file as you can reinstall or do a verify integrity, but anyone who mods creates a mod folder, with update.rpf etc as well as a scripts folder if you want to run scripts

Okay it's possible but is it possible to change controller bindings without getting banned in multiplayer? If it is possible then how can I do that?

Does anyone have a vanilla backup save for all of the .meta files? I messed it up, and if i verify the files thru steam, I lose all the other edits, bc I'm stupid, and didn't back anything up:/

^ So you make a backup of the entire gtav folder, or at minimum - the files you edit'd.
Then you verify, rename that copy -clean, and put the old copy back.. or whatever.

This is why any modification of .rpf's should be in a 'mods' folder - which has copies you modify and leaves a vanilla copy intact. You can even tell openiv not to left you mod a file unless it is in the 'mods' folder.

Or at ultra-bare minimum - list by name the actual .meta file you need.
(because I currently see 1562 -.-)
