Cayo Perico - How do people always have a key to the gates?
I can't seem to find it anywhere... And when I DID find it.. It was cuz I was in the compound already and killed a guard. Seems like not everyone has to search all the dead guards for it though?

There is a guard in Los Santos that passes out drunk outside the bar next to the Vinewood MC. You can loot him without killing him for a key.

On the island there is a guard on the east side of the mansion next to a fence door. If you stealth kill him you can get a key off him.

It's random. Any guard can have a key inside the compound. The only ones that never have it are the juggernaut and the elite guards around and in El Rubio's stairway.

Are you referring to the key that unlocks the drawer to El Rubio's golden pistol? You can't loot the gate key in advance.

You're talking about a key card, you need 2 of these to open secondary loot rooms inside the compound (needs 2 players). One is randomly dropped by any normal guard inside the compound, the other is always on the desk in El Rubio's office.

I think NiveusT asks about the key chain, that opens steel gates inside the compound, which is actually only dropped by the 3 "elite" guards as you mentioned, the ones with a red vision cone that guard the office (not the juggernaut that is indicated with a red skull on the map). This drop is also random and not guaranteed.

No, I was talking about the key. The key to unlock the gates are also dropped by normal guards as well.

I’m not sure about the elite guards but I’ve never seen them drop any gate key or anything for that matter after they’re killed. I doubt it’s bad RnG at that point.

The gate key drops randomly from ANY of the guards. That mean they ALL could have it. The elite guards, the standard guards...doesn't matter. Only the Juggernaut can't drop it.

Drops what? lol.. I guess we're all playing a different game here, this is getting confusing. The fact there are small keys, key cards, key chains and gate codes doesn't help either. ^^

Well OP is talking about keys to the gates. I don't know why others started it about drawer key.

There's only the gate key, two keycards, and the drawer key if you picked it up in the main map before starting the heist finale.

He knows it, no need to make it more confusing.

Well I can only speak from my own experience. Without the use of a guide I found a route that is far from optimal but works for me. Apart from refining it at points I got spotted repeatedly, I have been going the same route ever since, and the results of guard drops have always been the same to me.

Inside the compound I always kill the same 8 bodyguards (10 if I didn't find a grappling hook). This includes the juggernaut (never drops anything) and the 3 elite bodyguards who surround the office (sometimes none of them drops a keychain, but mostly one of them does). The other 4 to 6 regular bodyguards randomly only drop a key card most of the times.

For clarification:

Juggernaut: The minigun wielding heavy armored guard who is indicated with a red skull and large red vision cone.
Elite Guards: These 3 guard El Rubio's office, indicated on the map by red dots and red vision cones.
Regular Bodyguards: all other guards inside the compound, indicated on the map by red dots with blue vision cones.
Regular Guards: all other guards outside of the compound, indicated by red dots on the map with blue vision cones. When you wear a guard uniform their dots on the map turn white.

And the different type of keys:

Key Cards: One is randomly dropped by regular bodyguards inside the compound, one is always on the desk of El Rubio's office. You need 2 of them (and 2 players) to open the secondary loot rooms inside the compound.
Keychain: Randomly dropped by one of the 3 elite bodyguards guarding the office. It will let you open gates inside the compound, the steel gates that lead to the basement and the courtyard at the Main Gate.
Small Key: A one time drop from a sleeping guard at random locations in Los Santos (repeated encounters will still give you $7007). This key will open the drawer in the desk in El Rubio's office, which contains the golden Perico Pistol.
Gate Codes: Randomly dropped by guards outside but close to the compound. This gives access to the North and South Gate entrances.

Key chain drops from non elite guards too. I'm fairly sure keycard drops from elites as well, but I don't really pay attention to it since for the most part I go solo.

Ok guess it depends on what non elite guards then, the particular 4 to 6 on my route never drop them. Perhaps because they are not located close to the office? It's possible I never noticed the elite bodyguards dropping a key card because by then I've already killed 4 regular bodyguards of which one always drops it.

Pool guys very commonly drop key chain. Guy patrolling east of main building under that camera too. Probably more can do that, but then I just don't pay attention much or overall don't bother with killing. But now I'm tempted to farm some juggernaut kills to test possible drops lol.

That’s what I posted earlier. I’ve never seen elite guards drop any gate key or even keycards.

If you happen to have screenshots
of either the elite guards and the juggernaut dropping anything then post them here. I always melee the Juggernaut before proceeding to kill the elite guards and I’ve never seen them drop anything.
