Can you play GTA V in Offline Mode?
Hello, I would like to purchase GTA V in steam even though I actually have it on another platform. I have one question,
Can you play GTA V in Steam Offline Mode? Since my PC is not always connected to the Internet, so it would be awesome if I can play offline.
Thanks in advance! :)

You can but every few days of play you need an internet connection just to verify your copy of the game as everytime you launch the game, rockstar checks if you did purchase your game, then issues a sort of temporary license. After a few days that license will expire and rockstar will re-verify. You could probably hotspot from your phone for like 5mins just to verify your game then you can get right back to playing offline, and of course Story mode is the only available mode playable offline.

Thank you for your answer!
But have you ever tried it recently? Since I have heard that that commandline no longer works. I've also tried the commmandline in another "platform" but it didn't work at all, sadly.

Thank you for your answer! I think it's a no problem at all, since in another "platform" I have to be connected every single time if I want to play GTA V even in Story Mode

Yes
-scofflineonly worked fine in commandline.txt here as of 2 minutes ago. Have been using it for years. There were some updates to R* launcher when it came out when it did/didn't work and needed adding via launch options in steam.

....Not to be confused with 'using it' without internet access and the R* launcher nonsense. R* being R* is does just ay 'star the 'game' not launcher.

Though, I literally just disabled my network card in device manager and got to storymode just fine. Of course, I had already legitimately logged into steam, and even gta5 itself 'before' this test - yay intermittent drm. R* launcher was closed before attempting without internet.

People have been complaining about this for years - some even stating it quits working after a pc restart but whatever. Others suggest steam in offline mode. There have been differences in the statements. You used to even be able to adjust date/time on pc back to the last time you authenticated and it would work for weeks/months.

-Wouldn't confuse any of this with enhanced.
Also, won't be personally testing enhanced.

/goodluck or whatevs...

31.03.2025 update:
The launch parameter "-scofflineonly" is not worked for a long time, because the game was unable to log the player in, so it denied loading in. But since the "old" version is now called "Legacy", this launch parameter works again, makes the game skip main menu and straight load into story mode at the last quicksave. Also, "commandline.txt" is not a thing anymore, launch parameters need to be applied in Steam.
@psykoteky I redone my comment. | Can you tell me where that txt is supposed to be? Because I placed it into the main game directory and nothing happened. I needed to launch the game offline, otherwise the R☆ launcher tells me "update needed" when I'm trying to apply my 1.0.2845.0 downgrade files (since last december) and it denies launching the game ‒ that's a stable game version where all of my mods work okay enough. I can't disconnect, so I can't disable the network for myself just to launch this game. My update is only valid for the "Legacy" version, of course.
Are you talking... Dec 2023?

I know there was a R* launcher update... awhile back - that broke downgrading to an extent. Most people modding storymode either needed to move up a version, or there were some mods that you could put in to 'skip' that stuff. I don't recall the mod name off hand.

edit - It wasn't gtav launcher bypass. I don't remember. I know I posted the link at least twice here on steam. Something about social club bypass or.. something. DInner time - can't keep looking. Will look again later if you don't find it.

edit - one last check - this was it I believe but not 'listed' for your version.

Could be R* continued to 'move' the version forward. Will have to tinker later with some of my older downgrades that... 'work'.

As for the commandline.txt - it goes in your steam/steamapps/gtav folder. That's it.
Make sure it isn't a .txt.txt or whatever. Not sure where else it could swing wrong there unless you were trying a 'copy' of a game folder.. as that has seemingly always had issues. Do the testing in a 'default' folder setup if you are.

@psykoteky My downgraded version is 1.0.2845.0 where (almost) all of my mods work okay. An update in December 2024 made the R☆ launcher reject this downgraded version saying "update required". But launching with "-scofflineonly" parameter seems to "bypass" the version check and the game loads straight into story mode at the last quicksave.

I have this one installed since a long time, but it seems it doesn't matter anymore.
turdstar was the first long ago to demand u sign in to play this all went to court and it was adjudicated they couldnt force people to sign in to play the game they legally purchased, owned, so the login menu then had a "play offline" button.

but i guess all these years they been able to make u do this now they all do it what it is is a verify game an files been modded messed with we dont have a choice anymore they pown us those days r gone aint coming back f them
@Ribalder But hey, at least there's a launch parameter to launch the game offline which seems to work now.
12.04.2025 update:When an update happens:
If the R☆ launcher says it can't update, temporarily remove the "-scofflineonly" launch parameter. Do the game downgrade as usual, only add the launch parameter back when the R☆ launcher says "game update required" ‒ let it finish the launcher update process!
If everything done correctly, the game should skip the main menu and load straight into story mode at the last quicksave.
