Is The Difference Between MSAA 4x and 8x Noticeable?

For some reason this game is giving me low fps at times on a rtx 3070. My settings are maxed out except I have shadows on very high and grass on high. I'm using a 1080p monitor and have vsync on but it still occasionally would drop to 51-55 fps and stay there in some areas with 8x msaa. Just wondering if there is an actual noticeable difference since I'm having some placebo effect from turning it down lmao.

Check your Processor's and Graphic Card's Control Panel settings. If they set for proper performance, the game will looks like a garbo naturally. Also be sure you're not running on DirectX 10 nor 10.1.

msaa is ugly, don't use it if you can, try using frame scaling to render the game at a higher resolution and back off the msaa to 2x.

I'll actually try this. I think red dead had really bad texture filtering that felt like there was a blur. I remember toning some stuff down and increasing the render

Yea msaa on rdr2 sucks..

with a 3070 i would set grass to normal and instead of msaa i would use 4x dsr @ 3840x2160 (i always set up 2,25x and 4x dsr in nvidia driver with 20% sharpness). i guess 2,25x dsr will be 2880x1620 for you if you want to try it first but both will be a blast :) i m using it since around 2011 and i never gone back to normal resolutions.
