The landing gear advice was good, I will try it.
Another thing I avoid doing now is open the phone while I'm flying.
Same thing with the landing gear. I gave that a shot after reading up about it being a potential fix, only for it to work once but then bug out on the following attempt.
Other things I've tried with no success:
Another question, where do you spawn in your session? In one of my first runs when the heist released I spawned in the Kosatka and couldn't access the heist board at all. So perhaps it's safer not to use it as a spawnpoint either.
This bug never happened to me, and if any of these steps I take are different than what you did perhaps it's an idea to try it like this (this has been my exact routine from the beginning):
When I want to run this heist (I only play it solo) I boot the game directly into story mode and go to invite only from there. I spawn at the Casino Penthouse (any other spawnpoint than the Kosatka should do), walk out of the front entrance and call for the Sparrow. When flying over Vespucci Beach I call for the Kosatka to make sure it will spawn at that location. I go in, set up the heist and intel mission, and fly out with the Sparrow again. Instead of fast-traveling to the Velum's position, I fly there. Takes some extra time, but since Vespucci Beach is the best location to do preps, I just leave it there for when I return to LS. When approaching the smugglers I shoot a missile at the pair that stand away from the plane and car. Often the one next to the plane is dumb enough to go to the car for cover, I lock into him and wait for it. If he doesn't I blow up the one by the car and snipe the one by the plane instead after landing my Sparrow a safe distance away. I know the Velum can take a missile but I don't damage it. After killing them I fly away with the Velum, retract the landing gear and switch to a radiostation. As soon as I pass any mountains I fly straight towards and into the marker to the island at a moderate height (about as high as the top of electricity pylons/masts).
So, perhaps a few things to take into consideration worth a try:
- Start your game session directly into story mode and go straight into an invite only session from there to start the heist and intel setup
- Don't spawn in your Kosatka
- Don't fast-travel to the Velum's location but fly there
- Don't damage the Velum
- Fly straight towards the marker for Cayo Perico, at a moderate height
I load up at my CEO building (Maze Bank Tower) so when I leave and call in my Kosatka, it usually spawns off the coast of Vespucci Beach. The only thing I do differently from EARADIQI during intel is fast travel to the Velum since I can't be bothered to fly all the way North just to fly back the way I came in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ plane.
