Shooting = Keyboard & Mouse
You can try to be clever and switch between the two, but I generally say pick the one best for what you're going to spending more time doing and stick with it.
and what you prefer to do in general
You would think that a keyboard would be best for aiming
and in a "free aim" thats true. That said... this game
is seriously built apon the controller layout
and generally balanced for one. every land vehicle
going at any decently fast speed will be a massive chore
to hit the driver out of, a super car can run you over without any hassle
let alone vehicles like the kuruma, insurgent or nightshark.
that have armored windows. While yeah... you can blow them up
the kuruma is a great example of this, taking out any armored vehicle
with rockets while on foot, before they kill you is way easier said then done
this all leads up to my main point. the reason vehicles such as the insurgent and nightshark (among quite a few others) have so much armor
is due to the way the game was designed in the first place
on a console, with a controller and auto aim. it gives someone on foot a chance at taking out atleast the driver halting the vehicle and allowing you to take shots, kill the passengers etc etc.
think of it this way. Battlefield 4 or really any of the battlefield games,
vehicles are so much more powerful then people on foot
and it really feels like you can't do much without being in one yourself
(of course i know there are lock on missiles and certain anti-tank grenades you can unlock "eventually" that will help the situation)
is this a bad thing? i honestly do believe that it isn't fun being absolutely
destroyed by a vehicle due to an insane health pool and little to no resources to defend yourself.Especially early on
GTA lock on sessions fix this for the most part except with planes
but land vehicles, helicopters and even the "dreaded" oppressor,
can be ether shot out with a good placed headshot, or locked onto
with the homing launcher that is available to all players from lvl 1
of course planes are the exception to this rule due to the
commonly known "fly in a circle" method of avoiding missiles
and the best method of taking them down is with the explosive sniper
all that said, it makes the game funnily enough more fair and alot more fun, sure sniping on foot will be easier with a keyboard and mouse
but a player with lockon is going to have a far easier time dealing with the majority of land vehicles in the game. switching back and fourth is
optimal to each situation. but honestly, vehicle controls in this game
are garbage for keyboards and as mentioned above on foot while
it might "feel" better at first. Most do not know but you can switch
the first person view control type to control exactly like a COD game.
(you know instead of holding x or a to run) with the exception of snipers
controller is just a far more comfortable balanced way to play the game.
When you move the mouse, you're not steering the vehicle. You're moving an invisible "analogue stick" that the vehicle follows. Because it's invisible, there's no reliable way to "centre" a plane or helicopter without overshooting, leading to pilot-induced oscillation, especially with the natural delay in controlling heavier aircraft. I don't understand why R* couldn't have at least drawn this "invisible analogue stick" on the screen so I could aim that.
As a result, I fly all of my vehicles solely via the keyboard. Aiming hull-mounted weapons is VERY difficult that way, but it does work. Probably a handicap in PvP, but it's more than enough for PvE. Most aircraft with pilot-controlled weapons tend to have homing missiles anyway.
For everything else, K&M is perfectly serviceable.
Use all and just swap when you feel like it
The best advice is try both, compare and decide.
This isn't a competitive FPS. NPCs are not gods, so they're easy to shoot down. In PvP you're using weaponized vehicles regardless thanks to the direction they chose to go with this game.
I don't even use explosive sniper rifle rounds anymore because there's barely a weaponized plane flying anymore. It's all Opressor Mk2s, Deluxos, and Toreadors.
This
But I switch between the two, sometimes I drive with the controller while using the mouse to aim out the car.
Some advice though, go into gamepad settings and set up auto aim to ON or partial in single player, itll then be that way in online, and will try to put you with more of the controller people.
Stop writing posts like this my god thats annoying to read lol.
