Cars floating, teleporting, lag in multiplayer.
So I'm having this weird lag problem that started a few days ok. Everything works find when I'm in a session by myself but once I join my boyfriend's game (we are on the same router and stuff I might add), the moment I get close to him, it starts to have extreme lag or syncing issues where he will just glide across the ground, cars start to float and the moment I get into the car with him, it gets worse. On his screen he will be driving but on mine we are just sitting there while he turns the wheel and then suddenly it will jump forward and we'll be driving but everything is choppy on my end and cars float, etc. He tested this with a friend and everything worked fine on both ends; it only messes up when I join the game.

I have tried to verify the cache and even reinstalled to no avail. I do not know what else to do, can anyone give me a suggestion?

Are you both connected with an actual cable to your router, or are you both using the wifi?

What is your bandwitdth? Take a speed test: www.speedtest.net , and let us know the result.

Turn off anything else that may use up bandwidth while taking the test.

We are both hard-wired. I wouldn't even dream of just using wi-fi for a PC.
We also are supposed to have 100mb fiber internet, though it looks like it's at about 85 at the moment.

Possibly packet collision, are both NIC's in full-duplex mode?

Sorry that's beyond me, I have no clue what you are saying.

Not sure if thats the issue though, from what i know about gta 5 it might simply be impossible to play with 2 pcs on the same outside ip adress..

here a copy from the rockstar forums that explains it quite well, hope this helps you out.

This isn't an issue with lack of capacity, it is an issue due to lack of IP addresses, almost certainly.
GTAO is P2P, which means that other game clients on the Internet are connecting straight to your game client, in addition to talking to Rockstars servers. I assume this is so that it gets cheaper for Rockstar - they don't need nearly as fast connections or as many servers.
That's why you need to forwards ports, so that connections coming in from the outside get recognized and forwarded to the internal IP address of the gaming machine in the home, instead of being rejected by your router.
UPnP does this same thing automatically, but we're still talking connections from the outside getting passed inside. This is different compared to,say, visiting a web page that starts with you going out and asking for info and then receiving it.
With one player in the house, other games on the Internet see one player and one external IP and things work. With two players in the house, suddenly there are two people on one address. This means that neither of them work, or only one works at a time. You cannot forward the same port to two separate gaming computers on the home network.
To the best of my knowledge there is no easy fix - the second player has to have another Internet connection, like by tethering a mobile phone and using that to get to the Internet. Unless you can manually change the ports the game uses and forward those to the second gamer, which I don't think you can.

As I said before though, it was working just fine without any problems last week. We did not have any ports forwarded, no new internet service or any major changes. Why would it suddenly have issues?

And no, it isn't on full-duplex it's on auto.

Also port forwarding did nothing.

It's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ argument to say two computers on the same connection can't play the same game as well. I have never had a single issue with that on any game I have ever played.

If it worked before, something must have changed..
I dont think they changed anything to the game itself so it has to be something in your house,
however from here its gonna be very difficult to figure out what exactly that might be..

Might be a router issue, or a setting/update on one of the 2 pcs.
It doesnt have to be something you changed yourself, the router usually manages upnp (which assigns ports to specific pcs on request) Gta 5 has 4 different ports it can use, maybe the router is trying to assign the same port to 2 pcs, where as before 1 pcs used another one?
(you can try manually setting the ports up in your router, the ports needed by gta:
UDP Ports: 6672, 61455, 61457, 61456, and 61458 you can try to forward 61455 and 61457 to your bf pcs ip, and 61456 and 61458 to yours, or try other possible options. I would recommend not to make a port forwarding for 6672, since itll most likely stop the game from working on the other pc.)

This is just a possible example, lots of other things could cause this sort of behaviour.

Gta 5 is notorious for using lots and lots of connections and leaving them all open, with 2 pcs this has a high risk of simply overflooding the router.

Does the same thing happen when the 2 of you are in a invite only session with just the 2 of you?

what about you and his friend that he tested it with? does the same thing still occur if you join his game without your bf being there? (him not being ingame at all would be the best to test this)

Try to exclude what isnt causing the problem and at some point you will figure out what is causing it..

Sadly this is probably not the answer you wanted, but im afraid i aint got an easy solution for this one.

Most games dont use p2p as gta 5 does, i can understand your frustration, but from a technical standpoint its not all that weird for it to malfunction.
