Driving the exact same cars, yet mine is slower than my friends?

Does anyone have any info on this?

In missions and races, me and my friend will drive side by side on a loooong straight stretch and his car will just zoom past eventually..

we're both playing with the Keyboard/Mouse set-up, so it's not a problem of halftriggering a controller or something..

Same here, I even switched cars with my friend and he drives my car faster than me :(
I tried his another car and I was driving it slower than he does
