Do online players know youre spectating them?

So i stay out of online generally cuz of the kidz and cheats and shiz but when i do i like to go to my house and spectate other players in my session. Do these players know I am spectating them? cuz some of them will actually turn towards the camera and flip it off and then it says they are no longer available.
Since ive started spectating Ive become astonished at just how many hackers and cheaters there are in this game. I was flabbergasted. Im tempted to start recording and put on yt or send to rockstar.

lol its usually the cheaters that immediately leave while im spectating them

they can i had a friend spectate me and it came up with that message
(the same message from heists/missions)
where it says someone is now spectating you

it works for non friends too
cause a couple times i was wandering in freeroam and it said so and so is now spectating you bottom left side of screen above minimap
