Online worth playing as a "free" player?
Hello.

I just got a new PC that can actually run this game and I was wondering if the online mode is worth playing if I'm not willing to pay for those Shark Card things?

Is it still possible to earn the endgame stuff or has R* basically made it impossible to do anything without forking out real cash?

Yes anything can be earned through regular play, Nothing in game is locked behind a paywall,.
But amassing the riches in game to acquire all the things you want or a position of not having to fret spending a few million on cars etc will take a good amount of time in.

I'd argue it's worth it only if you can find some way to host a "solo public" lobby. That's about the only time the Online is even tolerable. I've personally found that... Well, there really isn't much of a "game" to GTA Online. I guess you can do races and such, but other than that? It's an online world with grind and not much else. You don't even get to use some of your cooler toys on missions, like the Ballistic Equipment, and plenty of what you can spend money on (like Yachts) is almost purely fluff.

I have most of the things I want out of GTA Online and I never bought a Shark Card, so you can play your $60 game "for free" just fine. Funny enough, I would have bought some Shark Cards if the deals weren't so insultingly bad. Yeah, why don't I go ahead and spend €10 for $1 000 000 in-game that I can pull out of mostly just my Biker businesses. Thanks, R*. It's an absolute pain in the ass getting started, but you should be fine once you have a few businesses going. Just be prepared for a lot of really tedious driving up-and-down the map.

I never bought sharkcards. Earning money is very easy, especialy if you have someone that can help you out in hesits.
well, focus on the "If" because doing business at start is the painful experience until you get Arcade, High-end apartment or facility.
Also don't bother with public servers, they are outright terrible with griefers and "Chinese" gods and goddesses.

Don't do sharks kid. Gta Online is all about grind. Forces legit players to suffer or buy sharks. BUT instead there are glitches that you can exploit without getting a ban. So if you wanna play GTA Online and get rich without grinding for thousands of hours you will need this one word: BOGDAN.

You need to join a friend who can do Bogdan glitch. You can join him/her and make them rich at the start of the game. That's how I kickstart my mates who wanted to play GTA Online.

Or you can search for Doomsday Heists via phone (don't know at which level in unlocks so you might need to do some basic missions or rob stores). You might end up with a guy who does bogdan glitch but they won't offer much money. Stingy bastardos.

There should be a slave queue for new players, from which a grinder could go pick up a slave and use it. In the end the grinder would let slave do Doomsday submarine himself, with max share, as a way of graduating to GTA Online. The slave would get a good start and be useful before that.

And before someone begin to blame me of something, I started that way total clueless in GTA5, luckily picked up by some grinder :D Was awesome to see places and things, especially MY SHARE in Doomsday :D Still remember fondly that day. Very much thank you, you unknown grinder!

"Forces legit players to suffer or buy sharks"
Utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Shark cards are optional. If people think they are 'forced' to buy them, they are flimsy minded lops.
If you think legit players 'suffer' you don't really like playing the game. Plenty of 'legit' players do enjoy playing.

I know, but a new player know nothing of those. And that is what matter. That's why there should be a pick up queue.

It's only worthit on private servers and roleplaying servers. Officials are utter trash.

I wouldn't recommend it at this point in time. Every update is aimed at people who are already established. Almost every time I play with a new player they tell me something like they just got a nightclub but then it turns out they don't have any of the businesses that benefit from it. If you want a similar experience that is actually worth playing for free, (albeit a very different setting) try Read Dead Online. It is super easy to get gold bars and cash in that game I have never felt like I needed to buy it.

you dont need sharkcards, but you will need to grind because certain items have a paywall, and the game when it comes to combat can be really p2w, because if you have an oppressor mk2 you pretty much win the battle if the guy is in a car or something

Paywall? Nah. Grindwall? Yeah.

From grinding point of view it is waste of time to participate on PvP.

For lack of specific numbers, I present a rough estimate of mine:

Level 54 - About 60 hours in GTAO - No real monetary input (no shark cards or packs)

Owned: CEO Office, Garage, Apartment, Bunker

I've only ever played "solo" in the sense that I join up with whatever is going on when I start the game. I run races, heists, random missions, etc. without having a solid relationship with any other players. It is not efficient in terms of money making, but I'm not sure that money = fun here. What is fun is that chaos of playing with other people. If you're playing GTAO as a solo crime sim then you're missing out on what separates GTAO from GTAV--other people.

Truly, these people who tout solo lobbies, are almost certainly all finding a strange enjoyment in growing their e-peens.

I've never been troubled by a modder, cheater, hacker, or an Oppressor MkII in that period of time. I don't consider myself lucky. I simply don't solicit or stand out.
