But amassing the riches in game to acquire all the things you want or a position of not having to fret spending a few million on cars etc will take a good amount of time in.
I have most of the things I want out of GTA Online and I never bought a Shark Card, so you can play your $60 game "for free" just fine. Funny enough, I would have bought some Shark Cards if the deals weren't so insultingly bad. Yeah, why don't I go ahead and spend €10 for $1 000 000 in-game that I can pull out of mostly just my Biker businesses. Thanks, R*. It's an absolute pain in the ass getting started, but you should be fine once you have a few businesses going. Just be prepared for a lot of really tedious driving up-and-down the map.
Also don't bother with public servers, they are outright terrible with griefers and "Chinese" gods and goddesses.

You need to join a friend who can do Bogdan glitch. You can join him/her and make them rich at the start of the game. That's how I kickstart my mates who wanted to play GTA Online.
Or you can search for Doomsday Heists via phone (don't know at which level in unlocks so you might need to do some basic missions or rob stores). You might end up with a guy who does bogdan glitch but they won't offer much money. Stingy bastardos.
And before someone begin to blame me of something, I started that way total clueless in GTA5, luckily picked up by some grinder :D Was awesome to see places and things, especially MY SHARE in Doomsday :D Still remember fondly that day. Very much thank you, you unknown grinder!
Utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Shark cards are optional. If people think they are 'forced' to buy them, they are flimsy minded lops.
If you think legit players 'suffer' you don't really like playing the game. Plenty of 'legit' players do enjoy playing.
Never heard of CEO / MC eh?
I know, but a new player know nothing of those. And that is what matter. That's why there should be a pick up queue.

From grinding point of view it is waste of time to participate on PvP.
Level 54 - About 60 hours in GTAO - No real monetary input (no shark cards or packs)
Owned: CEO Office, Garage, Apartment, Bunker
I've only ever played "solo" in the sense that I join up with whatever is going on when I start the game. I run races, heists, random missions, etc. without having a solid relationship with any other players. It is not efficient in terms of money making, but I'm not sure that money = fun here. What is fun is that chaos of playing with other people. If you're playing GTAO as a solo crime sim then you're missing out on what separates GTAO from GTAV--other people.
Truly, these people who tout solo lobbies, are almost certainly all finding a strange enjoyment in growing their e-peens.
I've never been troubled by a modder, cheater, hacker, or an Oppressor MkII in that period of time. I don't consider myself lucky. I simply don't solicit or stand out.
