Worth it to get GTAV just for Singe Player Campaign?
Have some fond memories of Vice City but never really got into GTAIV... is it worth it just for Single Player?

It is! Even better if you mod the game. I personally bought the game just for the single player and I don't regret my time spent on it. Go for it.

Its alright in single player, but its no Vice City (IV wasn't either tbh).

They cut quite a bit of content from singleplayer and put it exclusively on the Online this time around i.e. the casino, clubs, food places, stores etc, in SP most of those are just facades that you can't interact with. On the other hand they are fully fleshed out in the Online version, and Los Santos is alot more lively for it.

The nightclubs alone have a ton of interactions in them, missions too. And you can play the online on your own for the most part, public lobby is not mandatory.

the single player game is the pinnacle of modern gaming design. The three character storyline is fun and engrossing, and Trevor is hands down the best character ever created for any video game.

aboslutely, you will love the production value on the singleplayer game and if you want sandbox stuff there are always mods. Online tho, tragic. don't bother.

I think its worth it for single-player you can have a lot of fun and as others have said the 3 story arc is interesting plus the attention to detail throughout the map/game is pretty sweet. I think you could probably spend around 80-100 hours just on that depending on your pace and exploring etc.

If you decide to go online as [-iD-] said above...good luck hehe that being said you can still have fun in multi-player by making money in solo sessions. (Theres a few legit ways you can do this like suspending your GTA.exe in task manager for 10 secs then resuming it in task manager > Performance monitor

If you go online though (full lobbies), don't expect to do missions and make money without being blown up. I would recommend getting cash/properties you are comfortable with, after that see online as a challenge to simply get crates sold and just see it as the crazy bafoonery it is

i would say that Gta singleplayer or multiplayer is a game u have to play as a gamer, the game is for some awsumb and some dumb but its a experience worth the money by my oppinion

When the user brings up "fond memories of vice city" i imagine its the neon lights, iconic radio stations, the living breathing 80s criminal underworld of miami, gang wars, mobsters, Tommy Vercetti, the interior spaces, all the properties one could purchase, and so on so so forth.

Most of whats mentioned there is in GTA Online (down to gang wars), not singleplayer. SP instead is missing all of it for the sake of focusing on a story about 3 criminals that 95% of the time are looking to make money, either by killing people or planning a heist and eventually robbing the place.

Online has all those features and more, it has more heists available, more properties (including all manner of homes, which again are not in SP), more activities, more Los Santos, because places become usable and have people in them (theres probably more interactions with interiors just in a nightclub, than all of singleplayer combined), theres more of everything, weapons, vehicles, airplanes, boats, you can own a 200ft Yatch if you're ever so keen to RP the lifestyle. Even some of the SP characters make it to Online, i've only just started and already found Maude, Lamar, Lester, Lazlow etc etc. All fully voice acted and with their own missions.

Despite community, which isn't stellar (you can play solo), it doesn't sound like a fair assessment to be calling the SP wonderful, but online, thats arguably richer in content, of "tragic". Only problem with Online is that it should have all be in SP to begin with, rather than have the game cut like this.

online is a slog of a grind fest and filled with cheaters. again... tragic.
Simple Man 2020 年 6 月 25 日 下午 4:41
Slog because you can't own all the content on the first day? what did you expect, armored cars, rocket launchers, some airplanes and the yatch few hours in? sounds unrealistic by any games standards.

And that ruleset applies much the same way in your praised single player, where you won't be buying things like the 150 million dollar golf course in your first day. Infact you might not get it on your last day either, because unless you do the right things at the right time (like investing during franklins assassinations), you're out, and will never own any of the more expensive businesses (that in single player serve no purpose at all, and are terribly underdeveloped even when you DO own them).

Cheaters, supposed "modders", do not affect your time with the game in any way, not unless you yourself are jumping into public lobbies, then its a throw of the dice, but its still a choice you consciously just made. Even the events you might want to participate in (that pop on your phone) are instanced, and once done with those, you're immediatly ported back to your own session, to explore all of Los Santos at your own leisure.

Im not defending anybody in the community surrounding this game, but to say the Online mode is terrible, or however you wanna put it, when its infact better than SP, as it offers everything SP does and then some, is the only real tragedy.

yeah lets play a multiplayer game alone, sounds fun (not) and i did own everything after 1 day because i got a ton of money dropped on me when they could first do it and after learning that everyone else is just going to do this i quit that evening in june 2015. I don't care about owning things- i do care that the grindfest is a slog though. 90% of the content doesn't pay enough to justify even doing it and most people wont join you to do any of it.
Simple Man 2020 年 6 月 25 日 下午 5:15
You seem bent on just saying Online equals cheaters. We all acknowledge they're there (even then, not everywhere, its not 98% of public lobbies), nobody likes them, but they do not make, much less break, all the content they put in GTA Online, which can be a treat to explore and dive into.

Of what little i experienced so far, people seem to join events fine, i've only just started, im like 3 days into it, and stuff like RCs, stunts, or all the (open wheel) races ive been in, were between 12 and 16 players, full lobby. Winning one of those races was yelding over 50.000$, 49 second laps for 5 laps, so 50k for just over 4 minutes of racing these fun Formula 1 (500?) cars around a track.

As a complete noob, casual too, i'll never grind for anything (its not what im there for) yet i've already opened a 1.7 million nightclub, and will be working towards a bunker whenever i see fit, as some users on these boards suggested id do. Just seems to me you're not all that willing to see all the mode does right (and online is alot more like Vice City was), and instead want to obsess over the negative, but we'll leave it here. Take care.

i'm just gonna post this here.

why play online when you don't even need to?

Enjoyed single player waaaaaaaaaaaay more than I am enjoying online, as stated by someothers the intertwining storyline was pretty good.
