Issue with the Rockstar client
Hi! I'm pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ poor, so while I can stand to splurge on PC parts and games, A monthly fee for actual wifi would ♥♥♥♥ me over a bit, considering how expensive they are. So, I use my phone, usb tethering, and an app that hides tether usage. It works pretty great! I only have to pay my phone bill, I don't get slowed, and my internet speed isn't crazy, but it's more than enough to play most games without an issue!

The only issues I have ever run into, is on GTA V. For whatever reason, the rockstar client just REFUSES to start when I'm on usb tethering. I've gotten around this in the past by just using my phones hotspot, which is significantly slower, but it seems to convince the rockstar client that there is actually internet. I've tried opening my ports, messing with my firewall, and a bunch of other ♥♥♥♥ in the past, but it never kept me from playing single-player, so I just gave up.

So NOW the problem is that my friend wants to play gta v, and I don't wanna play online with 130-200 ping, which is what I get if I'm on my hotspot. Like I said though, my usb tethering is much faster, it's just that the rockstar client just doesn't see it as actual internet, and can't connect to rockstar servers because of it. I've had issues with player to player hosting in the past, and I've blamed it on my NAT type, but I'm clueless as to what's going on with this.

If you're able to provide any help, I'd really appreciate it!

you probably wont be able to play with him anyway, as you use your phone most if not all phone companies block UDP ports that gtav requires so its impossible for you to configure your NAT on a mobile line.

Alright! Thank you. My only question now, is why does my hotspot work with the rockstar client, while USB tethering doesn't? Because I've played online on my own before with my hotspot. Granted with like 130 ping, but I did connect!

GTAO doesn't like most USB devices for some reason. I've never used a usb tether before so aside from that fact not really sure.

please, bro, i am poor too. please tell me how you connect the hotspot, i do not care about ping - i just want to be able to connect to gta online - no friends :P also, i am only using my usb tether for mobile as connection, do i need to get a wifi receiver or something for my pc? i have tried a lot of things that don't really make sense, like changing DNS and stuff. thanks

ping isn't the problem dude. never said it was. using mobile hotspot means connectivity issues eg disconnects and everyone leaving lobby within a min or 2. much less the fact that it simply may not work at all.

You can avoid most if not all issues that come with using USB tethering, if you run it trough a VPN on your computer.

bro, i was asking OP cz in his first post he claimed to be poor and was playing gta online with his hotspot, but it was slower. whereas, i cannot play gta online because i simply tether. i do not have a wifi connection to my pc - but my phone can create a hotspot - i am poor, like OP - and am not bothered about friends joining my lobby. i just want to play gta online, and OP has given me hope.

how were you able to open ports if you are not using a router? i have been doing research and apparently all i can see is that i need a damn fine fibre connection and more recently a VPN and now you say mobile hotspot works...do i just need to connect a wifi receiver to my pc? iam using tether and cannot connect. please bro, i have spent a lot of money and time just getting the game download done...i played this game on XBL at release when broadband speeds match my current mobile speed - so i know it's possible to play. please bro, just explain what i need to do - i think i just need an attachment for my pc so it can receive wifi connections, tethering only allows rockstar unavailable error.

hi im so sorry for your situation but what i said doesn't change facts. A mobile hotspot will play for about 10 mins and then it will disconnect from a session due to the inability to control NAT. op is talking about single player connection by connecting to the rockstar social club using his hotspot. NOT MULTIPLAYER. ffs.
