How to change my NAT Type from Strict
As the title says, i want to know how do i change my NAT type. i've been searching the fix on any other sites including rockstar official article related to this.

And for your info, i don't use router/wifi. i used mobile hotspot from my phone. A couple of weeks ago i don't frequently left the session but recently i disconnected a lot (left session). Is there any way to improve my connection with my hotspot? because i don't find this problem in any other multiplayer games other than GTA. thx!

Only way to bypass a strict NAT is to use a VPN.
Nope this is false, really false, i have opened dozen of people's (at least i count no less than 23) strict NAT to moderate, however indeed i never face someone who refuses to use router or modem and use phone tethering instead.

For OP: there's lot of free vpns, and paid one too, however vpn will reduce your effective speed since vpn will act as tunnel (consumes bandwidth and ping)

i would recommend buying a router or modem for long run, but its up to you.

but first what you wanna try is opening up your pc's firewall on gta v

Vyper VPn is a solution for mobile internet. they also offer a month for free. just use a VPN and in the VPN settings set the NAT to open. so turn off NAT, then you can play without a strict NAT. Worked for me for 7 years while using cellphone internet. Only way to bypass a strict NAT is to use a VPN. mobile internet uses a carrier grade NAT which cannot be bypassed without a static IP or a VPN. if you can get a static IP, then this can also bypass your NAT type for some mobile providers.

Oh okay, thx for answering. i'll note this suggestion and look forward into this one. Is there any other alternate VPN that i can try with?
anything that has a option to turn off your NAT. A VPN is the only way to %100 open your NAT. just use 160 bit encryption and turn off NAT. as far as lowering speed? I get the same speeds through Vyper VPN that I get without a VPN. It all depends on the encryption protocal used which is why I say use 160 bit. worst case out of my 200Mbs I get 195Mbps. In some cases a VPN can speed up your connection by giving a more direct path to where your connecting. Those VPN advertise this but I would not count on faster speeds. I used mobile internet playing R6 siege and GTA for 6 years and just recently switched to a landline connection. A VPN if used correctly will not noticably affect your speeds or gameplay.

Ok what I said in the context I said it is not false at all. All cellphone internet uses a carrier grade NAT which has ports locked and you cannot open them without a VPN or with some cellphone carriers you can get a static IP which opens those ports.

Maybe read the conversation before making yourself look dumb and trying to correct me. If the best you can do is get a moderate NAT in this game and not a Open NAT, then try port forwarding which is the proper way to get a open NAT in this game:
Its your NAT type. your network firewall

use this link to setup port forwarding. don't download any software, skip the ads and it will give you step by step instructions on how to set it up and what ports it needs.

the only usefull thing you said was checking the PC firewall since he cannot fully utilize UpnP with mobile internet. you obviously know nothing about mobile internet. so guess your the one who is really wrong.

UPDATE: this method works just fine lately, thank you so much. i hope it'll stay works :sans:
i'll pin this as an answers.
nice, glad that worked
24th now :)

if somehow it doesnt work again, try restarting your internet tether+mobile data or router (Give 1-10 mins before reconnect), whichever you use and your pc, it should back working

Bro, i dont have router :(
again, instead of buying vpn service, i would recommend saving up for a router, even a cheap one (but at least has enough specification), like a 10-15$ router will do
you say buy a router, but fail to understand he has mobile internet. A router would make no difference in which ports are blocked on his internet. He needs home internet with a router. not a router for his mobile internet.

There's some kind of router that accept mobile sim cards, i'm saying these because certain phone has limited port forwarding and upnp, while router, even the cheap ones, has upnp and port forwarding settings build in

yes they have the settings built in, but what your not understanding is they would make no difference unless he uses a VPN or has a static IP with his phone company. without a VPN or a Static IP, there are ports you will need to access that are closed by the ISP. Its called a carrier grade NAT. yes with a mobile router he may be able to open a few ports to get a moderate NAT, but it is impossible to get a open NAT without 1 of the 2 options I mentioned.

Well OP wanna get rid of strict NAT, which i believe, moderate NAT is enough. Those port forwarding is very crucial between a strict NAT, and a moderate NAT. Yes OP couldn't achieve open NAT, but that's mostly not a neccessary thing to stay on a session. The one gonna leave the session is strict NATs unless the strict NAT is the host, or OP have connection instability to other members. Again moderate is fine, open is better, but not neccessary.

for modem/router:
Some phone has good tethering capabilites, and able to keep in moderate all times with upnp enabled, however a router or modem will grant that more consistently and more stable connection, so OP get less trouble in online

Indeed, i know VPN mostly deal with NAT problem easily, or even, almost every time as part of the service, just using VPN isn't the only way getting rid of strict NAT, but yeah OP would have better time in open with vpn, but that's not neccessary and fully optional.

again: read OP's context, OP doesn't ask open NAT, OP simply ask for getting rid of strict NAT which there's other method doing so. So when you say VPN is only way getting bypass a strict NAT is VPN, i totally disagree, which OP proves i'm being right to escort him to moderate NAT without a VPN.

So yes a moderate NAT should work for most situations. I used to play COD with a moderate NAT on my phone internet with no issues. but a router still would make no difference for him. he can use UpNp on his PC which stops you from needing port forwarding therefore rendering the use of a router/modem pointless.

While this is true, some phones aren't reliable, which in this case, we don't know if OP's phone able to do a good coverage. If OP's phone perform adequately, OP doesn't need additional router/modem. When the OP's connection starts getting trouble in several occasion, its best to buy a portable modem to maintain this better. Yeah maybe phone can do upnp and port forward, but sometime phone aren't reliable.

I never said a VPN is the only way to get rid of a strict NAT. not sure where your getting that from. assumptions.:steamfacepalm:

I assume anyone who is willing to spend the time asking how to get rid of a strict NAT, would like to know how to get a open NAT. I merely gave him the options to do it the correct way to guarantee he ahs no port issues. A moderate NAT does not guarantee gameplay free of NAT issues a Open NAT does. Some people like to do things the correct way.

Sure, a Open NAT definitely does better job, just i'm correcting things that it doesn't have to be VPN to get rid or bypass a strict NAT, which results in moderate NAT

and if it doesn't work adequately then its time to get a new phone because he would not be getting phone service either. obviously the OP is getting internet since he is chatting with us so this whole phone may not be reliable crap is irrelevant. you and your hypathetical situations...

Yes and what I said is correct to get a Open NAT. your not correcting anyone just making yourself look silly by taking what I am saying out of context. I understand you can get a moderate NAT without my options but this does not guarantee gameplay. I am telling him the correct way to open his NAT to avoid all NAT issues. getting to a moderate NAT is not considered a NAT fix. Just a bandaid/temp fix

Also using UpNp to get a moderate NAT is not secure at all and should not be considered a fix because it is opening the OP to security issues. So basically there is no secure way to bypass a strict NAT unless using a VPN or a static IP and port forwarding with your mobile ISP.

it's likely your ISP then if you set dmz to your gaming pc, and have modem ports forwarded to router. May try using a VPN and at least get a "moderate" nat.
