What do tracer bullets actually do?

"Tracer ammunition (tracers) are bullets or cannon caliber projectiles that are built with a small pyrotechnic charge in their base. Ignited by the burning powder, the pyrotechnic composition burns very brightly, making the projectile trajectory visible to the naked eye during daylight, and very bright during nighttime firing. This enables the shooter to make aiming corrections without observing the impact of the rounds fired and without using the sights of the weapon. Tracer fire can also be used to signal to other shooters where to concentrate their fire during battle."

TL:DR useful in real life, useless in GTA

Full metal jacket has wall penetration abilities (I'm not sure about in-game). Armor Piercing rounds are self-explainitory...they pierce through rounds. So obviously, if someone is wearing body armor, the bullets will ignore it and damage their health.

from what i can tell they do more damage to cars. I can't tell any difference of piercing effects as of yet.

I can't seem to find any in google about the round so i searched the meaning of that round.

So.... when you get hit by a FMJ you will not be killed but that part that was shot needs an amputation?

It tells you in the description what the differant bullets do when selecting them.

Tracer bullets are used so you can see where your round is going typcially at night, pretty much useless in GTA.

In the game

armor piercing is for people wearing armor
full metal jacket is used against armored cars, and bullet resistant glass
