GTA V stuck on installing first steps (DirectX) [SOLVED I guess?]
After finishing downloading GTA V it starts installing first two steps that shows installing directX and then quickly finishes up and nothing happens.. The game doesn't turn on.. You press play again and the same thing happens.. DirectX installation appears, disappears and nothing. I thought maybe I should just manually install the latest directX.. But then I get the internal sytem error and can't install it.

Does anyone know what can this be? How to solve this? I have been searching online, nothing works. Please send help

Maybe u can try to uninstall direct x first and then try to reinstall it (or try to repair it if possible through uninstall a program)

I'd do this -

Restart the computer, just to close any files/clear memory (don't launch steam either) -
then
Remove all the dx files. Use a janky .bat file I wrote from this link --- it will move the files to backup folders for you - make sure to exit steam, rightclick the .bat and run as admin.
(yes, you can rightclick/edit the .bat - to look and see what it does -.-)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rJvafaYjKDOZia5IBMeeIOU5sVZPfzKW/view

It it isn't moving every single file or has issues - try it in windows safemode.
Again, be SURE to run it as admin.

After you've moved them with my .bat - install directx again from the websetup - making sure to rightclick/run as admin. (from steam/steamapps/common/gtav/_commonredist/directx/2010)
(preferably - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 )
I'd suggest a pc restart - but some users report it working immediately after.

I would also exit steam, rightclick steam, and run steam as admin - before trying gtav again.

Same thing. I still get the internal system error and can't install directx

It seems to be a common thing for games to keep trying to installed DirectX. If you already have it, and a game tries to install it, that's when it catches and doesn't do anything. If that happens, just open the Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL then press Task Manager) Go into the Details page, and look for the DirectX set-up process. When you find it, click it and press the End Task button. If a pop up comes up about it, just ignore it and end the task. This'll stop it from trying to install, and will then let the game carry on either installing something else, or boot up. Sadly though you'll need to do this every time. I don't know how to stop it from happening

What do you mean by internal system error? What does it say? Any error code?

The game doesn't turn on when I end the task of the installer.. It disappears and nothing happens.. When you press play again same thing

This appears when trying to install directx "please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your Windows folder to determine problem"

Have you examined the last few lines of those logs to see if anything obvious pops out?

What should I look for?

From DirectX.log
InstallEXE command : infinst.exe
From DXError.log
DirectX Update Install Plugin failed

Same thing.. being.. when gtav starts it attempts to install it and it doesn't work?
Or...
Same thing.. you've removed directx using the .bat I posted, and attempting to manually reinstall gives the same error?

You've attempted to run steam as admin?
Manually reinstall directx - as admin?

You got any antivirus/security/windows defender stuff choking your system?
Try temp sleep/disable or add gtav/directx installer to whitelist/exclusions.
(Just dealt with another system having exact error - uninstalled the antivirus - done)
(sleep for 10 minutes - did NOT work. directx only cleanly installed after av was uninstalled)

You have issues with permissions/folders related to your TEMP location and dx install?
Can try winkey+pause/break. Advanced system settings, advanced, enviroment variables.
Change TEMP and TMP in the first window to point to a new folder like... temp2 as a test.

Steam used to put the _commonredist folder in the gtav folder, that had these things to install and it was rather quick/simple to modify the .vdf and disable it from trying to install them. Since their recent changes - I no longer get that folder when I verify. Haven't sorted out "where" the new location/configuration is to preemptively disable it.

Update - Did find a steam / steamapps / common / steamworks shared / _commonredist / directx / jun2010 folder. Inside was a installscript.vdf that I zero'd out. Needs more testing. Also pointless to do unless you are sure you've atleast got 1 clean install of directx installed.
(no, this doesn't count if you only have what a clean win10 has installed)

Yes. I have used the .bat file and attempted to install directx again and it doesn't work

Okay. Problem was that my windows had to update. I didn't know that. And for some reason it couldn't update by itself. So I manually downloaded the update from site and now every thing works. That was the problem

I hope this whole discussion at least helps someone else and if not sorry for wasting your people's time

For me the solution was to switch to dedicated GPU only.
