Map, textures, etc not loading + lag
(specs at bottom) I got GTA5 a while ago and recently started playing it once I got a new SSD that could store it. I'm having the issue where the map and textures pop in and out while I'm driving or flying, and on one occasion my car fell through the map. I've tried everything to try to fix this--updating all the device drivers, updating the game ready driver from NVidia, optimizing through NVidia, setting priority to high in task manager and setting processor affinity to all cores in task manager, lowering graphics settings to normal, validating game files, updating game files, VSync on/off, using some commands in command line, forcing the game to use one graphics card or the other; basically anything short of using a mod, and nothing seemed to change at any point. By all means, from what I have seen, I should be able to run it smooth at high quality. Am I missing something that Rockstar put out perhaps?

Note: The motherboard was recently changed out, twice. The first time was due to a CPU failure, when it came back my NVidia card wasn't working. When I ran GTA5 on normal and even high settings, the game ran fine, albeit a little laggy as the integrated graphics card had to tap into RAM I believe to handle everything. I sent my computer back to Dell and everything works again and installed correctly, but now I have the issue with the map and textures. Dialog lags on occasion. I run no other programs when I play.

Specs: Dell XPS 9560, Intel i5-7300 @ 2.5 GHz, Samsung 970 Evo 1TB, Intel HD Graphics 630 (integrated), NVidia GeForce GTX 1050, 8GB DDR4 RAM. All parts are stock or same as original except the SSD.

First thing I recommend you to do is removing the XLM file that regulates your graphics settings ("settings.xml" located @ "C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V") then loading up the game and applying a new graphics setting, after that, run the benchmark and check if the texture loading issue will persist or be fixed.

Usually when there is a change of hardware that file can somehow become corrupted and usually removing it and launching the game again to create a fresh new file solves most of the problems. When there is a texture load issue, that can be the case, considering that you are using an SSD texture load should not be a problem.

I understand that you got yourself an new SSD, how did you ported the game to the SSD? Did you used the Steam library creation and moved the game to a new library in your new SSD?

Once I got my SSD, I had to reinstall Windows and I had to re-download GTA5 from my Steam library. I didn’t have any adapters or external storage, save a small flash drive exclusively for the Windows ISO.

To clarify: when I sent in my computer for the motherboard the first time, they wiped the original drive, once I got it back the NVidia card didn’t work but the game ran decently. They wiped the drive again when I sent my computer to Dell the second time, after that I installed the new SSD.

Im running a 1060 on a mix of high and normal settings, i had the chunks of map texture not loading when i had the settings higher and reducing them sorted it.

Because it happens on low settings for you it sounds like its trying to use the intergrated intel graphics. I know you said you tried it but id revisit making sure its defo using the nvida card.

Another thing is 4gb ram can cripple games, id check your system still recognises your 8gb and that a stick didnt get knocked lose when you sent it back to dell.

Thats about alls i can think of :)

Tried deleting the .xml, didn't work. Thanks for your help though.

All 8GB of RAM recognized, and device drivers installed, etc. But Task Manager shows 4+GB used at just about any time without GTAV running. Is there a reliable way to help free some of this up or would I just have to upgrade my laptop? I don't run any other programs (except whatever works in the background) while I play.
