money in the bank disappears

I had about 100K when I disconnected in the morning, now I just connected at night and my account is at 0
is it a bug or what?

You disconnected without a save from R*. Its a bug. The game is supposed to save every time there is a transaction on your account. Problem is sometimes connection issues prevent that from happening. In order to ensure your $$$ is saved, before you log off, deposit cash into your bank. That forces another attempt to save and if there is a connection problem you will get the 'cannot contact R*' error.

When you want to disconnect from online choose:
Online>>Leave GTA ONLINE

this forces the game to save your online progress.

I had this happen a few times and all three times it happened after I did a mission and even though I did the Online>>Leave GTA ONLINE the money from that mission was gone the next day. Some people say to wait for the phone call. If you don't get the phone (ignore this on the ceo crates sales) do find new session and make sure the money is there or and that you get the phone call in the next session.

That's what I was gonna say I always wait for the call! Then leave the game via menu!

Not once in over 2000 hours did I close the game using the menu, ALT F4 is all I use and I never lost money that way.

Alt F4 saves the game just like exiting through the menu does.

The call from the NPC after doing a sale saying great job blah blah... You will see the gold save circle in the lower right hand corner afterwards. The gold circle means the game is syncing to the rockstar servers.

When you alt F4, you always get the yellow circle. The only way to exit without saving is by ending the process.
Alt F4 prompts a message asking if you would really like to quit and it saves when you hit enter.
