You're not the first person to mention that. Until very recently I was working with a 'ex-friend' who insisted on using a controller and their steering was franky terrible and they became a real burden on missions where items had to be run from point A to point B because they insisted on using that controller and it meant that their top speed was something like half the full speed of the vehicle they were driving.

I tried repeatedly to get them to use a keyboard but frankly they made all sorts of excuses as to why they could not - which was fine, their choice, but it was impacting on the shared gameplay. I use only five keys to play: UP: Accelerate, DOWN: Decellerate, LEFT: Turn left, RIGHT: Turn right and J: Handbrake. What's not to love?

If you're using a ps4 controller this seems to be a problem for some, try recalibrating the controller, or switch controllers if possible.

There's also a case of the triggers not functioning properly regardless of the controller, since the triggers usually act like a proper accelerator for controllers, it might not be registering it as "fully in".

No issues here with driving or accelerating using a 360 wired controller.

I use a wireless 360 controller, because driving games are not meant to be played on keyboard. and yes shooting games are better on keyboard, but there is more driving than shooting in gta

True

it probably has to do with the trigger as if you slightly push your trigger it will go pretty slow compared to pushing it the whole way down making it go the max speed, it seems your trigger is either broken to where it detects it as being pushed slightly even though its the full way down. and if you are using a ps4 controller ditch it and spend 20$ on a xb1 as its compatible with windows pc's and doesnt need no unreliable crappy 3rd party software crap
