[SOLVED]Can't launch the game, help!

Hey there!


First time GTA V player here - at least aspiring to be. Can't start the game - getting a black
screen and a crash report.


What's more worrisome, even following most excellent and thorough guides were no help either. I started with doing all the steps in this thread:

I did not skip optional-looking steps, like using that bat file to clear Dx before reinstalling, or using DDU for driver update.

Besides that, based on some other threads I also..

- made sure os isn't booting in debug mode
- disabled all non-Miscrosoft processes (turned Steam, Nvidia Controls and Realtek Audio back on later after some failures)
- unlpugged all non-essential usb things. Even unplugged kb, and tried to start gtav by clicking it and unplugging the mouse too real fast
- disabled Daemon tools virtual USB in the device manager. (Never knew that's a thing.)
+ no external AV interferes

I'm using Windows 7 SP1 with all updates, and The Rock Star Social club Installer (version 1_0_1290_2)

The pc I'm using doesn't technically meet the requirements - using a strong dual core in a modern setup. But I had no problem running a pirated gtav on this very same hardware, close to max settings.

The linked thread was for 255ff not c000005. I also see no mention of verifying files (gtavlauncher -verify)

You also mention pirate copy. Was that used as a base to cut down the download size?

Log says Hu- is the windows version n/kn and did you throw files into the gtav folder?

Windows virtually memory set to windows controlled?

I did get various error codes during following your steps, guess I fixed 255ff at a point. The posted log is what remains after trying roughly everything I could find.

I forgot to mention doing the -verify thing, didn't help either.

I did test my new GPU with a pirated gtav copy back in December. Same hardware, but Windows was reinstalled since then. No traces of it remains, I'm doing the above with a legit copy downloaded fully by the Rock Star Social Club launcher.

Win is Windows 7 Professional. It's language (just as the lang of gtav) is set to English. Apparently it still digs up my locality from somewhere.

No one but Rockstar Social Club launcher placed files in my gtav folder.

Paging file is system managed.

In some of those cases - other drivers, have been a cause.. really hit or miss.

Folder cleaning - incase you did throw stuff into the gtav folder-
(as that is a common thing all over the googles - and causes weird issues)

I gave another thorough read to all these threads linked above. I cleared the few programs that could have interfered - never had AV or GeForce Experience or any overlays. I hate those and they known to cause issues. Could only think of Daemon tools.

None of the more... exotic possibilities apply to me either. No Korean Windows that requires some extra redist, nor manual tampering with files. No USB things besides kb/m. I just found and replaced a missing usb3 driver though.

Anyways, disabled everything non-MS in msconfig (again). Only this time I noticed I should do the same with NVIDIA HD Audio, and Realtek HD Audio in device manager too. So I did. Don't think I have missed any other steps previously.

Still stuck. Error codes look the same to me, not that I'm expert in such voodoo. Posting the fresh logs (skipped safe mode attempt this time):

Apparently the -verify method on the non-Steam version isn't the most reliable method to fix potentially faulty files. Hard reinstall overnight did the trick.
