How to actually remove the FPS cap?
So I get around 80-90 FPS in games like AC Odyssey. Prey. RE 7, RE2.

But in GTA V I get 40 FPS that caps out at 60.

Which really sucks as I have a 144Hz monitor.

Any idea how to remove this cap? I have the -novsync option in the steam launch options and turned off v-sync in the menu. Didn't work. Even tried to enable them to see if it worked, still no.

My GPU should be more than capable and no matter the settings I use I can't pass 60 FPS.

Ideas?

-novsync doesn't actually do anything.

Disable "fullscreen optimisations" on the GTA V .exe, then force highest refresh and force vsync off at driver level.

Also, put it on all the lowest settings, then look at the ground, it still won't go over 60 fps?

I haven't done the "fullscreen optimisations" yet as I don't see that anywhere.

Even looking at the ground. Only when I pause it does it clock over 60, according to steam's FPS counter.

In-game it never goes above when not paused.

Yeah i hate to say it, but your probably not gonna get 144 frames with that video card. not in this game atleast.
I get 60 frames with a gtx 1050ti so you def need to change some settings to get your 60 frames.

BTW there is no cap unless you have vsync on

Is it exactly 60 fps? Or is it 62 or 63 fps instead?

Also, are you running in fullscreen, borderless, or windowed? Make sure you're running in fullscreen.

So how is it in 2018 and 2019 games I can get around 90 FPS + and in a 2013 game I can't break 60? That doesn't seem right at all.

Are you using RTSS, msi afterburner, evga precision etc to cap the frame rate? Have you ever used nvidia inspector to alter a driver profile or global settings to cap the frame rate from driver level? Have you tried restoring to default the global settings and program settings in manage 3D settings in nvidia control panel?

Also, have you verified that you are actually running in 144hz mode on the desktop?

It's not a 2013 game, the last update was just before Christmas...

I agree. The thing is this game has had updates that have made it more resource intensive. I agree though in 2019 being this game was released 6 years ago should run 144 frames with a GTX 1070 no issues. Also being P2P affects this game also graphics wise. All in all the blame is on Rockstar for making a game that's not all that well optimized compared to other games. Even though they are adding new content which does in the end require more resources, I think the optimization could be much better

It is a 2013 game, Just one that gets updates. Just because it got a update a few months ago doesn't change when the game was made:steamfacepalm:

None of which really matters, since he's already confirmed he can't get over 60 fps, no matter what settings he puts it on.

His frame rate is clearly synced/capped at 60, and it shouldn't be. That is what the problem is, firstly, not the actual performance.
