What does the "Shunt Boost" do?

I noticed you can purchase the Shunt Boost for an Arena War vehicle. What exactly does it do?

Shunt boosts your car either left or right, but it doesn't seem to work for me.

Just purchased and those keybinds doesn't seem to work to me. I'm testing in free roam on Sasquatch. I don't have vertical jump only shunt boost.
On my is crtl + L mouse button + W/A/D.

It goes to both sides. X+left mouse button go to the left, X+right mouse button go to the right.
