Any suggestions?

16Gb Ram
4Gb GPU

I don't have any mods installed. I've been on the problem for two hours now. Tired. Taking a break for lunch.

Anyone have any suggestions? Any actual help would be appreciated. Silly suggestions will be met with my best adult glare.

EDIT: - Any solution which involves large downloads will probably drive me over the edge. I live in rural Australia, and internet connectivity here is a joke. A joke we're paying for.

New federal legislation is stopping those of us who've purchased software from overseas, including through Steam, from updating. Some games which require third-party software simply won't update via some ISPs. So that leads to messing around with proxies & VPNs.

I reinstalled the game from a 67Gb archive, and it required another 20-25Gb update, which took more than 30hrs to download.

Large downloads are not available to me everyday, I might have to shelve this for another day.

Without going into it too much, I thought I'd clarify my situation a little more.

I don't love the game enough to break my computer. For the moment, it's an inaccessible lump on my HD.

I'll give it another hour or so, then it's gone.

Ok lets get one thing straight, you wont break youre computer by resinstalling windows, unless you to do a BIOS update or readjust the fans nothing can really break it, you might mess up youre OS but thats fixable by reinstalling windows again, but noone but you can break the computer, ofc I wouldnt reinstall windows either if only GTA V was not working, but time will tell if other games are malfunctioning, just saying, use youre brain and never do something youre not sure about use google and read about stuff before doing something

A simple restart is not the problem. It's the tinkering. I don't have the time to mess around with this for too long, and I'd rather devote my free time to something more productive. "Reading stuff". mhmm. English is not the only language I've been reading this morning.

Thanks, dude. I'll muddle along for another little while before shelving it. I still have a few hours left of free time.

SOLVED: Go to your Graphics Card software and download the latest update. Add your game's profile to the Graphics Card's list of high-performance games. Right-click This PC icon, select Properties, then click Device Manager, and click on Display Adapters, right-click your graphics card name from the list and select Update Driver. If you're spawning the USS Dallas submarine in GTA, you also need to start by diving for 2 minutes underwater in the Stromberg or Submersible1 first before spawning the new Submersible3. This clears out the persistence of extraneous peds, vehicles, and other memory-intensive elements in the surface environment by switching to underwater mode that is more suitable for spawning the submarine.
