Export/back it up and test.
As mentioned, it doesn't cover the missing files (if any), but you can check/extract those too individually if something isn't installing clean. Usually the N/KN builds need the most recent/compatible media feature pack installed. Generally doesn't toss this error.
Had it on my big 2TB drive(E:) gonna now try to reinstall it on drive C
Not exactly giving info to move forward with to finding the 'new' cause of this - if one.
It made these entries afterwards (maybe more - didn't check)-
Do both of these locations exist in your registry?
Middle making dinner to haven't investigated where gtav/launcher checks yet.
Or is it throwing this error while installing/updating the new launcher/social club?
Would help narrow it down a little.
And windows media features are installed too?
(I had just media features installed - WMP was not installed - didn't give me this error)
Also not on a N/KN version - if you are, the correct one for the build needs to be in too.
Edit -
Uninstalled both windows media player AND media features.
(If they both are already installed you could uninstall both, and reinstall them too)
Restarted pc.
Still isn't giving the error... O.o
The above reg info is from a win10 1903. If you are on something else it could be diff.
I suppose it is also possible for AV/security to prevent complete/correct installation.
Again, you need to be sure to install both media player and media features.
If they are already installed - uninstall them, and install again to see if it helps.
note: I can open the launcher independently but it will give me the error if I try to "Play On Steam"
