"Unexpected files found"
Saw this "warning" in the new launcher when I exited the game.

"unexpected files have been found in the install directory of GTA 5.

Use of unofficial modifications to the game is not supported and may result in being banned from online content"

Now being someone who has never modded the game, I went and took a look in my GTA 5 directory to see what could have possibly annoyed them. Did I have a backup folder in there or something?

Nope. Three jpeg images which I use as thumbnails for the game when I launch it from my Steam Library (own the Rockstar version).

Seriously?

The game can't tell the difference between an image file and a potential mod?

I removed them from the folder, just in case, but come on Rockstar, if this is the best you can do to target actual modders then this is some pathetic icing on top of an already ridiculous cake.

So, just a heads up to everyone who plays this game honestly, go take a look in your install folder now, don't leave silly things like this to chance. It would be embarrassing to be banned for a jpeg.

First post in the GTA V forum after about 1500 hours in this game. Wondered what would motivate me enough, now I know.

more cheat detection is a good thing.

Sure, no arguments from me there, but can it please be a little more sophisticated? On a list of files to safely ignore, a jpeg should be at the very top.

It is more of a warning to people, you can add a mp3 or txt files there and it pops up.

If the files you add there don't interact with online when you play then there is nothing to worry about.
I freshly installed the launcher, GTA V and RDR2 and I get this message on a different PC. There are no mods and yet, the launcher flags me for using them. I have contacted support and still waiting for them to respond to my ticket.

Its like their anti-cheat is flagging their own game. I downloaded the games gta v and also RDR2 straight from their launcher. Its an odd message to receive considering there are zero mods and everything was all a fresh install, including their launcher.

If you didn't remove traces of the files or mods you had manually then it doesn't matter if it is a new install or not.

Um.... its a "different PC" there should be absolutely zero trace.

Then you have nothing to worry about. Take it as a warning not a threat.
