Rockstar games launcher error saying "an instance of grand theft auto 5 is already running. please allow the game to fully exit before attempting to play again"

Everytime i try to open gta 5, the rockstar launcher will say that the game is already running but its not. I tried everything, restarting my pc, still nothing works. With or without mods, it still does the same.

anyone have the same problem?

Are you opening the launcher yourself, and running the game from there?

If so, try not doing that. Just open Steam, and click the "play" button for GTA V there.

I tried that it doesnt work it just opens up the rockstar launcher again im having that problem rn sigh

Try uninstalling just the launcher, and then clicking play in Steam again. It should automatically bring up the menu to re-install it, and then afterwards the most you should have to do is re-login to your Rockstar account and fill in a captcha, and then it should just launch into the game.

The login is saved, so anytime you click "play" in Steam after that it'll just auto-login and go right to the game.

Launching from Steam is *never* supposed to bring up the Rockstar launcher's own actual main menu, FYI, but it's possible that manually opening it yourself when the Steam version is installed (which I don't think you're really supposed to do) messes something up.

tried that but it's still the same

Make sure no GTA .exe are running (as the post above mine says) then launch from the directory where it's installed, not from Steam.

The easiest way to do this is through the Task Manager

Exiting out of a game doesn't always fully close/kill out these instances, especially if the game crashes or if you close out the game by alt tabbing out & then ending the game.

If you kill every instance of the game running in the Task Manager. There shouldn't be any way for it to still be running.

it doesn't show on my bg processes. but the GTA5.exe is showing on my details in task manager

Are these instances of GTA5.exe, RockstarService.exe etc... already there when you turn on your system ?

My game actually loaded for me when I took out dinput from scripthook

Still a problem, tried all suggestion and deleted and re-installed the game. I still cant play it, "it is already running" process IS in task manager running, cannot close it "Access denied"?
Rockstar please fix this.
It will suck if I go to launch red dead and it tells me "No, Gta is still running"
Cowboy gods prey for me, work. no gta for 3 weeks now. Let Red Dead work at least, dear god
