Same problem - installing the launcher separately was part of a troubleshooting step while working through random crash issues with Rockstar support.

I can tell you that a complete uninstall / reinstall of the game changes nothing. I've done it both ways, one having manually installed the launcher first and one letting Steam install the launcher.

This same exact problem happened years ago with GTA IV when the Social Club app was first introduced. This app replaces the Social Club app in that Rockstar now pushes you the launcher instead...but it *doesn't* replace the Social Club app in that one of the first things it does on install is to also install the Social Club.

So...I think this one's completely on Rockstar to fix.

if you cant find the rockstar launcher in the first screen of the task manager that's because its background operation. so go to "more details" at the bottom of task manager, that will bring up all the background apps. scroll down to the "rockstar launcher" and end them all (for me there was 3). no need for deleting files.

I've got a solution, it's just annoying that it's not likely to be fixed any time soon given that it's still here a month and two Rockstar updates later.
You have to close Steam completely, then try using the Launcher to start the game. Most times the Launcher will then open Steam back up again and fire up the game, but sometimes it'll throw these same dumb errors. Or if the game crashed earlier or you logged out of the game earlier, it may still throw these errors when you go to re-run the game.

The solution then is to restart your computer. If you have Steam launching when you log into Windows, close it, then open the Rockstar Games Launcher and try launching the game.

Hope this helps!

Hey men i have discovered one method to solve this problem, go to your GTA V local intalled and rename the "PlayGTAV.exe" to "PlayGTAVbak" (whatever just rename), you already do this? ok the next step is very simple download these file (Safe) https://pt.gta5-mods.com/tools/no-gtavlauncher and rename to PlayGTAV.exe ok? copy and paste on your GTA V install directory, go to your steam and open GTA V and ready the game will open, when you click open it will pop up a command window, you don't close it if your GTA V won't open, this executable works to ignore Rockstar's broken Launcher to go straight to the menu, rest assured there is no risk of ban

Who falls for this sh*t deserves to be banned! "Wanna play GTAV? Sure, download a modded .exe from a shady website and don't worry about any bans"...

Dawg. You do realize this is one of the biggest GTAV mod sites out there... It's more unusual to admit you 've never downloaded anything from there. Check out some of the stuff there. English version ---> www.gta5-mods.com.

As one of the biggest mod sites for GTA V would be obscure ??, it is true that it doesn’t even ban because it doesn’t change anything in the online mode sonically the way you’ll enter, cutting the dependency on the rockstar games launcher. Have a better solution? Send the link and no ♥♥♥♥
