Question: How to downgrade DiretX 12 to 10 or 11 so that I can play the game?
Team, I got a new laptop during thanksgiving of 2017 to have a better game experience.
But it seems like the Direct X is too advanced that GTA needs a lower version in order to play.
I have tried to use "Dxdiag" to identify problem but there is none.
And I have also tried to download from Microsoft but there is no issue identified as well.

What should I do? Do I just wait for GTA to get their program developed or what?
Thanks!

Ok so what you think is the problem, is not the problem.
Your laptop has a videocard capable of running DX12, but that only means that for the most it runs everything up to and including DX12.

GTA5 just runs on DX10 or DX11 which your card just supports, Direct X support is not your issue.

So what we need to know now is, what is your actual problem?
does the game not want to start for you at all?

I have done some research and it seems like my problem cannot be fixed.
Because GTA V only can support up to DirectX 11 as a 2013 game. And there have been this issue for last 2 years and I'm not the only one.

Thanks for your assistance though

facepalm i dont think you know what the hell you7 are talking about i run a 1070gtx which is dx12 compatable and have no problem running gta5 it has nothing to do with what ever you are thinking but i think we will just let you go as its clear you have no idea what you asre talking about

currently only about 20 games support dx12 does that mean my 3k pc cant play the dx11 10 or 9 games no it does not

the problem is user error

I'm not knowledgeable about hardwares.

A window pops up says "No DirectX 10 or 11 adapter or runtime found. Please install latest DirectX Runtime or install a compatible DirectX 10 or 11 video card"

I have tried to go to Microsoft.com to download the DirectX runtime and adapter. Neither of them works. I don't know what else I can do to fix it. I cannot even run the safe mode.

And I don't know what is 1070 gtx. How do you get dx12 compatable?
Thanks

reinstall/update your gfx drivers.

What graphics card do you actually have though? Should be listed in Dxdiag under display

Actually it looks like your the one who doesn't know what your talking about, your making false assumtions based on what? your own single experience with one card!
Some drivers with Dx12 miss out 10 or 9, specially on laptops.
OP, the only way to see if yours has a missing dx ver is to run dxiag to see if your driver has the complete set or not. If you are missing one of them, then all you do is is download a few driver versions direct from ATI or Nvidia websites & manual install & check till u find one with a full dx set.

Good luck, hope u get it sorted!

Also make sure you do a custom installation & only install the video driver & nothing else. Or you might end up messing up your audio!
I know ATI installs its own audio driver, not sure about nvidia.

I would like you to link one driver that supports DX12 but not 10 or 9... that just does not happen (also ATI has not existed anymore for a long time now)

@OP as asked, in DXdiag look up what video adapter you are using and tell us, we might be able to link you to the latest driver for your videocard which might fix things

Skipping over the discussion, you probably try to run the game on the Intel HD GPU with little to no DX support.
Does your laptop have another GPU? If yes, swith to it. If not, well, congratulations on an office client with no gaming capatibilities.

There's no such thing as a gfx card that has hardware support for DX 12 but can't run software (games) using earlier versions. That's just not something anyone has made or would make.

You can change the DX options in GTA5 under graphics settings. I think 10/10.1/11 are your choices.

Sounds like your video card needs new drivers is all. If you ran dxdiag.exe, it should have told you what it is, so post that.

Sorry about my ignorance, how to change the DX options in GTA V under graphics settings?
Thanks!

To link one driver that supports DX 12, does that requires some physical installation? Or just software update?
Thanks!

Hmm, do you know how to do that?

Does the laptop have a dedicated GPU? If so make sure it's the one that is active and not some internal one.
