SOLVED - Stutter + freeze / lag every seconds = unplayable (high end PC)
Hello there,

bought the game today, and it stutters so much with freezes and frames drops every seconds i can barely move or turn around and aim, it is absolutly unplayable :(

I have a GTX 1080 Ti and an i5 6600K @4.6GHz on a FRESH Windows 10 instal and last drivers. Every other games run very smooth.

Is there anything i can do? Tried to lower all graphics settings but no changes...

If i don't find a solution i will have to refund it :(

Thanks.

Consistantly timed pausing? Audio cutting out repeatedly? Section 2-
Only while moving? At high speed? Certain parts of the map? Randomly? Section 3
(might have multiple issues requiring both sections)

Possible fixes...

Thanks.

It freezes multiple times per seconds on any part of the map.

I just launched story mode, after the first 30 seconds of talking to the ostages we open a door and then it lags massively continuously, then we go out, it still lags massively. Its straight out unplayable. :(

i tried disabling Nvidia HDaudio it does nothing, also i dont have any razer stuff nor do i use logitech software.

SOLVED!!!!

I filled a Rockstargames support ticket, asked on Steam forum, searched on Google for 4 hours, asked friends, and finaly tonight one friend told me the solution... if your PC is too powerful (yeah what???) the framerate will go over 150 and GTA 5 will bug HARD! I enabled vsync at 144Hz/144fps and its smooth as silk. hope this will help someone.

SOLUTION : Don't go over 150 fps!

So - it was in section 3. Thanks (for confirmation).

Well not realy, a friend explained to me the solution, the GTA 5 Engine is badly coded, if you exceed 150 fps the game will start to malfunction. i have a 144Hz monitor and caped it at 144fps with vsync. It worked. No need to lower the framerate further.

If i can give you a tips is to explained ppl the solution. Engine does not handle framerate above 150. no need to go as low as 30.

thanks for you help sir and happy Christmas/new year.

(nvidia inspector.. dxtory.. msi.. gpu drivers.. so on)"
You should tell that it has to be lower than 150 ;)

go to graphics settings, run the bench mark tests, it will automatically adjust your settings. After make sure vsync is on. I know vsync sucks but it will stop the lag.

It's best to limit the frame rate, especially so that the CPU is not the limiting factor to the frame rate. But it's not specifically 150 fps, as far as I know.

I would disable sync and cap it lower with RTSS or drivers, like about 90 fps. I really doubt your i5 can hold 144fps in GTA V.

Do I need to cap the FPS at 144 or the Vsync? If the latter, how?

you can enable v-sync in the graphic settings
