Editing settings.xml in Online?
Hello,

I have recently bought myself GTA V (Rockstar distribution, from G2A). I have my main rig with GTX 1050Ti and FX, but it's in my family's home, 80km from my home.

I also have a laptop. i7-2670QM, 6GB and GT540M. I managed to lower the settings to the worst (plastic textures) only by editing the file in documents/RockstarGames/GTA V. Thankfully, performance was ideal.

I also wanted to play online with my friend. Will Rockstar ban me for lowering the graphics by editing CFGs? I'm not using any mod, it is stock GTA but with edited graphic config file.

Probably, seeing as modified files (be they default or added files) are not allowed.
You went past the the graphic options that were given to you ingame which very well (maybe not in GTA but in other games) provide a unfair advantage.
I wouldn't risk it if I were you.

you really gotta play gta that bad where you want to run it on a potato? lol. I doubt graphical configurations can get you banned but as whitewolf said, when in doubt, just don't bother.

You won't be banned for only edting the settings.xml - been doing it since release.
