Resolution Problems
All of a sudden, GTA V will not run at anything higher than 800x600 resolution. I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed 388.31 for my 970M GPU. Display settings in W10 (I have the latest Fall Creator Update) are set to 1920x1080 and my laptop display is at 60hz. But in GTA V in the settings, I cannot change the resoluton, it is stuck at 800x600 and Alt+Enter does not work. I do not have teamspeak, which I saw in Google searches that caused issues. I've done a driver uninstall and a fresh install and have deleted the settings.xml file too. Any ideas of what is going on with the settings?

My laptop has an i7 at 2.6GHz CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 6GB 970M GPU. Looks like I have DirectX 12 too.

Try using this command line method to force your resolution:

https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/202518358-Available-Command-Lines-for-GTAV-on-PC

Under "Window Preferences"

You shouldn't have to do it this way, but it may work.

The switches didn't help. I used -width 1920 -height 1080 -fullscreen and i still loaded and ran at 800x600 and I could not change the resolution with no matter what display mode (windowd, full screen, etc) I selected.

Many laptops have integated GPUs, along with the dedicated one. Are you sure it's running off the dedicated one? Maybe it got changed somehow.

What model is your laptop?

It is definitely using the nvidia GPU according to the settings.xml file. My laptop is a Gigabyte P37.

On a PC but having the same problem, tried everything mentioned in the post yet can't run the game higher than 800x600 regardless of what I tried...HELP! Windows 10 updated two days ago and after everything was done&installed, GTA 5 started loading in 800x600 windowed mode. All my other games are running smoothly though for some reason... :/

Hi, fortunately i solved my problem !
I did LOT of thing, so i dont really know which one solved this, here's what i did :

- Reinstall game (did not work)
- Verifying game file (did not work)
- Updating GPU driver to the latest.
- Removed some unused app like Cheat Engine, KMSPico and stuff.
- Changing stuff in the display setting of Win10.
and last : in setting.xml i changed <RefreshRate value="60" /> to <RefreshRate value="50" />, saved file launched game and boom ! it worked.

Been away for a long 4 week Christmas holiday and then when I got back, I haven't been playing much. I never really resolved this issue, but I do not think it is related to GTA V as I am also having prolems in other Steam games, such as Inside as well as non-Steam games, like my old copy of BF2 that I still play. I've gone through a few driver uninstall and reinstalls with driver uninstall utilities, so I'm wondering if there was a Windows update. This is almost driving me to buy a new laptop (I need an excuse to get one with a better GPU).

in nvidia control panel there is somewhere an option that says something about "game fullscreen" or "enable custom fullscreen" or something about fullscreen mode

enable it and it will be fixed
