Which ones are better in terms of speed, a free Elegy or an upgraded one that looks like a Nissan Skyline (BNR32) for $904,000?

well rh8 is sort of best sports class car for regular races, if it ain't some highway one.

I think you are forgetting stunt races, which is more popular than regular races. The elegy is still best in some R* created stunt races, but not that much better, and gets totally crushed in some.

The Elegy RH8 is famously the fastest sportscar in the game round most tracks, but it requires you to carry the momentum thru the corners to get the OP laps out of it, which is a lot harder to do in a racing situation than setting a good lap in other top sports cars. The elegy retro is slower but not by very much, you can still compete well in it unless the competition is significantly better drivers than yourself. You'll be able to beat your own Elegy RH8 laps in a Elegy retro on most tracks due to variation unless you are a very consistent racer.

Also worth mentioning is the Retro is smaller and have excellent brakes compared to the RH8, which means it's very nice for speeding around in freemode traffic with fewer accidents.
