Also try watching your memory usage under task manager. If it hits 100%, then obviously the problem is there.

Now I tried it, and the textures weren't loading as slowly as that time, in fact, it was much better, but I could still notice the cars and pedestrians loading slower than expected. I would think this was normal, but I don't recall ever encountering such issues on my R9 280x (maybe the shadows would sometimes take time to load when flying, but it was barely noticeable). Oh, and by the way, what settings are you playing at, and what's the average fps you get on your 960? I'm asking because my fps often drops to 39 suddenly, while driving, and I'm not sure if that's normal, cos I've seen a lot of videos featuring a rig which contained my CPU and GPU with the fps never dropping below 45 or sth
Because you're not only mixing size but speed, so there's a lot that could go wrong there.
if you don't want to buy another 8 GB stick (HyperX 1600 MHz) and run in duo i would reccomend changing your paging file size if you wan't any extra RAM.
Though the guaranteed side-effect is that the faster dimm will be slowed down to match the speed of the slower one.
I would first suggest simply testing if your memory is indeed running out.
Run GTA5 with basically nothing else on.
Set GTA5 for "borderless fullscreen" and set it to your monitors resolution.
Alt tab out and open Task Manager, go to the performance tab and scale it down a bit so you can still see the mini graphs but it does not take up so much screen space.
Go in the options an make sure Task Manager is set for "always on top"
Now Alt Tab back into the game, you should still have the task manager visible while you are playing the game.
Play a bit and see what your system memory is doing.
If it really is maxing out your 10gb, go to the task manager and check in details what on earth is eating up all your ram.
i run GTA5 with a 4-core AMD CPU, 2x4gb RAM and GTX 960 OC no problems. your original problem needs to be adressed first forget about adding RAM, sounds like a memory leak or unneccessary programs running in the backgraound.
if this helps..
