Story mode: What happend to Grovestreet?
Back in GTA San Andreas Grovestreet was the hood of 'The Greens', but now it is the hood of the Ballas. I wondered many times about what happend because now 'The Greens' are further south on the map (at Franklin's place). In one of the story missions in GTAV you even make a (bad) drugs deal at Grovestreet with the Ballas. Funny enough the Los Santos Vagos still have the same hood as in GTA-SA.

Did Rockstar ever mentioned what happened? In the game there is not really a reference to this.

Because Rockstar's convoluted lore, 3D universe =/= HD universe and all that ♥♥♥♥

Basically, GTA: San Andreas never happened in GTA V's world, except for a few easter eggs

It would be a shame if there is no real story behind that. Or I should say, a missed oppertunity. They did made an effort to somewhat recreate that neighborhood and they added a few of the gangs again so I expected a story behind the gangs that are now in different territories.

I often still go there on the map and have a little gang war shootout with them (dressed in green) :)

Gang territory is fluid. GTASA was the 80s. Jack Howetzer was big. Now, things have changed. CJ is dead. Temple drive set is mentioned on the news...not GSF....time to move on.

Consiering,CJ was the only one who made a change, who really worked for what the Grove Street Families stood for. So,perhaps CJ realized that the Grove Street Gang was a lost cause and became a member of the Ballas (which would make sense with the bmx easter egg) or that CJ didn´t age very well/had an accident/became somehow unable to fight for the Grove and that´s where the Ballas may have pushed out the Families and reinforced their influence.First theroy seeming more likely to me though, considering how,if you claimed every territory in SA,every gang is still present in LS,effectively claiming parts of town for themselves.Look at the Territory the Grove Street Families,if it´s them still, has. It´s next to nothing. They have a street and nothing more. The Ballas have a majority of Davis and Strawberry, the Paleto Bay Sawmill (don´t ask how they´ve expanded that far) and probably a lot more we don´t know about. The Vagos are also very spread throughout town, considering that we find them just behind Ballas Territory and in Vespucci. The Grove Street Families is gone as we know it.
