Gtx 750ti lag spikes
Sorry this is probably a really boring post that you see all the time but I'm out of options and need help with this.

I got gta the other day and I've been having problems with lag spikes ever since. I've managed to tweak the settings around now so that I get a decent fps but strangely this only lasts for around half an hour of playing the game after which I get lag spikes down to 5 - 10 fps lasting up to a couple of seconds. This makes the game unplayable and the only way to get another half hour of smooth fps is by restarting the pc. Restarting the game only gives me smooth fps for about 10 minutes.

I have researched this and I've found some recomended gtx 750ti settings that I'm using but all they did was give me the half and hour of smooth fps instead of straight into the lag spikes when I load up the game. For that first half an hour I get 30 - 40 fps in the dense city with skyscrapers and everything and 50-60 in less dense areas like the airport runway, the sea and the countryside. The lag spikes seem to be worse when I'm driving and do become less bad when I go somewhere less dense.

Another thing that is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ me off is that on top of the lag spikes the game looks way worse than it does on my brothers xbox one. On the xbox the textures are obviously higher res, the anti aliasing actually exists and he gets his solid 30fps.

I've read stuff about getting 50fps with a gtx 750ti in a similar setup to mine with the settings I'm using and the graphics being comparable to xbox one/ps4. I've seem posts on this forum saying they're getting 40-50 fps on high settings gtx 750ti but I don't understand how. Here's a link: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2015-grand-theft-auto-5-pc-performance btw I am looking at the gtx 750ti with i3 combo no the i7 or gtx 780.

I'm no expert on this stuff at all and I don't know whether I need to do more complex things to my pc to make it perform well. I tried the nvidia experience optimum settings but that made it much worse.

The strange thing about this to me is the smooth fps for half an hour and I don't really know, but it makes me think it's not something wrong with the game settings and instead something more complex I need to do with my pc.

Here are my specs: 8gb ram, GPU: GTX 750ti, CPU: AMD A10 7700K, 1TB HDD.
Here's a link to the product page if you need more: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B016PVDZD6/ref=gbps_♥♥♥_s-3_7907_9f39870f?pf_rd_p=733627907&pf_rd_s=slot-3&pf_rd_t=701&pf_rd_i=gb_all&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1QRN1392KXQB53CFZB0X#featureBulletsAndDetailBullets_secondary_view_div_1484526052683

I would replace that hdd with a ssd. Thats the only help I can give ya. I used to run this game with a gtx 750. Everything set to high except textures. Those were set to normal

Do you think that would sort the lag spikes?

Turn down the grass detail, the grass and tree density is the performance killer in the game, city / desert and ocean areas is fine

even with a GTX 1070 I barely get 30 - 40fps in heavy grass areas which is playable for me but maybe not be playable to other players

Set grass on low or medium, you could also disable V-sync but you'll probably get screen tearing

I'd suggest turning any Turboboost features off in your BIOS that may innecessary boost processor and RAM speed. Sounds like you have a cheap PC build.

@BaumThreat Just cos daddy bought you a new titan x for Christmas.
And thanks for all the suggestions I'll try them tonight. Thing is, is this a problem with settings as I can get that decent fps for half an hour wherever I am on the map. Does anyone know why the lag spikes only start after half an hour?

Slow computer. Used to have a intel G2030 and a GT640, which is close to the 750ti (refurbished, rebranded stuff sucks). And it's much bottle neck and probably a bad power supply that isn't giving what the rest of the computer is asking for in Current.

But if you thought "Ti" meant "Titan" you were completely wrong about it... A GTX760 would have done a greatly difference.

tl;dr; you wont have anyway to improve performance because something in your computer is lagging behind. It can be: Videocard, Processor, or, sadly, hard drive (a 7200RPM or even an SSD does make a difference).

if you read closely you can see that he said titan X. i5 + 1050 or 1060 & you can play pretty much anything on ultra (or with tweaks) right now..

Unfortunately I don't have a titan x or gtx1050 or 1060 it's just a gtx 750ti.

OK... hypocrite lol.

Also, I've found that A10 is extremely innefficient if Turboboost stuff are enabled.
trisnpod Jan 18, 2017 @ 10:47am
How do I disable turbo boost?
