Note that you don't need to do this more than once, when you've set it up you can return steam to normal.
You know you can make it work just like the PS4 controller... Right?
It takes 5 minutes. You just find the controller scheme made by someone from the community.
I tested it myself and it works just like a controller.

Which is the exact same thing you can do if you enable the PS4 controller option in Big Picture.
Seems like you're doing something wrong then, if you've not gotten it to work you shouldn't claim it just maps the keyboard controls to a controller when it uses the Steam controller as a basic scheme for the button layout then transmit them into something the Dualshock 4 can read.
