Script Hook issues.

Trying to update my Script Hook version. Upon starting the game I am met with "Unkown game version" so trying to copy the script hook v into the game folder does not work, it just says "the file is open in GTA V" even when Steam itself is not open which is impossible.

What on earth do I do?

I've had this issue for a few months and just left it. I'd rather not have to redownload 60GB if I can help it, yes I do have mods, quite a lot. I cannot even remove script hook. Community script hook v dot net however, was able to be copied, just not script hook v.

This is a backup I reinstalled btw. Just running out of options and patience.

Since the file is "open" you should also open taskmanager - and close any related processes.
(or simply restart the pc and don't run gtav - or to the extreme! - and boot into safemode...)

Obviously - start with the newest scripthook since the game was updated.

And in the case of file removal / reverting gtav to a vanilla install...
(which helps prevent the 65+gb download~)

Exit steam, rightclick steam, run steam as admin.
Rightclick gtav in steam, properties, local files tab, browse local files.
( View file extensions, show hidden/protected files - google how if needed )
Compare your folder/files to the screenshot - delete anything that is NOT in the screenshot.
( Ignore date, time, type, size - leave commandline.txt IF you use it ) -----
Then - delete the highlighted files.
And then ===> VERIFY CACHE. (you should/MUST do this)

I have tried that, about 10 minutes ago."The action can't be completed because the file or folder is open in another program"

Grand Theft Auto V. The game is not even open, I just launched Steam again. I am so confused.

Tried the above, still cannot remove those files. Dinput8, Scripthook etc, even when Steam isn't open and this was done after verifiying. Think I'm just going to call it quits, getting too old for this marlarky. I just enjoy mods, but they don't enjoy me! Thank you for trying.

did you try restarting your pc before deleting those files? or deleting in safe mode?

TBH I haven't used safe mode since Windows 98. But I will restart the PC and try it again. Then into safe mode.

Well bugger me sideways restarting worked. Script Hook files all copied over.. Thanks a lot! Why on earth would restarting work?

Between copying, moving, testing, crashing - something was still in memory and holding those files open. Restarting is just "easy" option vs manually closing those things in taskmanager.
