How to hang from the side of insurgent

You used to approach the space between the doors and just tap the appropriate key but at some point they changed it to prioritize the nearest available seat. Last I checked (mind you this was months ago) both seats on a side had to be occupied before it would allow you to stand on the running boards.

Its a 6 person vehicle, two players can hang at the side. But I think all the seats needs to be filled to allow this.

i cant make this work myself either, but i have seen a guy hang from it with a spare seat so it doesnt need to be full in order to hang on the rails, but after trying tapping f double tapping and holding i still cant achieve myself
