Anyone has the same problem? Eye Strain
So I own around 50 games. I have no problems in any of them, but... when I play GTA5, I get "eye strain". It does not matter how long I play, it can be as long as 5 minutes, my eyes start hurting. And it stays with me for the rest of the day. I googled around and it seems like there are a few other people that have the same problem with only GTA5. I can be playing any other game for hours and my eyes do not get strain.

Does anyone else have/notice the same issue? Is there a solution? maybe some in game settings that need to be changed.

If it happens after 5 minutes then maybe you need a vision test. Sit further from the display, take frequent eye breaks and look at things at different distances, make sure the room lighting is not pitch black and the screen is not full brightness. Good luck brah, take care of your eyes.

i do often get eye strain from this game, and exactly like you're saying... i can't really remember ever experiencing it before GTA 5. definitely didn't have this problem with GTA 4. i have some ideas on it. first of all, i know for a fact flying around in the jet brings the strain on very quickly for me which i think has to do with literally strugging to see targets on the ground because of the way the view distance works. and since you can't always see your targets, youre constantly having to check your alignment in relation to targets on the tiny ass minimap. I also think having choppy or just in general low framerate can cause strain. Make sure your settings are tuned to allow a solid 60 FPS. TBH though, i ultimately chalked it up to "gettin' too old for this sh!t".

Maybe its a issue with the refresh rate on your screen. You need to see a doctor about that to know for sure.

the doc is just going to say "why wont you just stop playing this one game?" This is the only game that causes this, so that means that my eyes are not the issue, but the game is.

Oh I didn't realize you were an optometrist. But really, You're the one who asked and I gave you the only proper answer. What you don't seem to undersantd is that it isn't an issues witht the game. Everyone else would be having eye problems too if it was. The game is fine. The real issue is with the way your eyes handel that game and only a doctor can tell you exactly what that is and if there is a way to fix it.

I mean you don't exactly have to be as smart as Bruce Wayne to figure that out.

despite the fact that he's trolling, King Flippy Nipps did remind me that for some reason the game's refresh rate setting can get changed to 50hz even if you didn't change it. not sure how that happens, but check to make sure you're set to 60hz regardless.

I don't see how Flippy is trolling.

Go back to your doctor and insist on some proper testing instead of the advice of not playing. The game is not the cause, it's something in the game that triggers your eyestrain. I would not worry about not being able to play GTA, I would like to know the cause if I was you.

EDIT: check what PSI suggests aswell. Might be as simple as that.

Hope I'm wrong tho, otherwise gl.

OP:

I just did some googlin' and eye strain in GTA came back with a few results. The common denominator was that the text size is too small in GTA IV and V. This makes you focus your eyes on and off to read/look at what you're doing. Like flexing a muscle, except the eye version.. haha

Perhaps adjust the sharpness on your display; if the letters are clearer, you might be able to read easier without flexin' them eyeballs; also turn off motion blur.

Try to relax your eyes and if you can, center your focus on your character as much as possible and when you look elsewhere don't "flex" your eyes to see it clearer..

I have terrible vision and I wear contacts 24 7 so this might all be gibberish to someone who can see fine.. anyway hope that helps.

I found a solution. The vehicle camera was set to "High", so I set it to "Low" and the problem went away! I guess my eyes got used to a low racing camera while playing NFS and other racing games. When on foot there is to eye strain. Seems to be good for now.

:D awesome to read!

Would still do a check up with a doctor tho :(
