Retail GTA V with Steam Overlay

I've tried all the normal methods and I can't seem to get it to work, following someone elses idea I've created a BAT file but it seems like steam will no longer let you launch/add non steam files unless they are .exe? Does anyone have a workaround?

yeah it does, go to the bottom click plus then click add non steam game, or browse and drag it in (probably patched

When I do that the only files I can see are .exe

"Add non-steam game", select GTA5, See it in library, rightclick, "Add shortcut to desktop."

I understand how to add non-steam games but it doesn't work doing it this way with GTA V retail, it closes the overlay once the game is launched

ok i got this i have the retail version step 1 run steam as administrator it's in properties & compatibility check that box step 2 don't run gta in administrator and make sure that gta.exe is in steam library that's it works for me hopefully it works for you good luck.

Yeah I've tried that but strangly that doesn't work for me, what version of windows are you running? Maybe something to do with me running windows 10...?

im on win10 do you have any other overlay running aka discord it might be stopping steam overlay maybe win10 game dvr overlay thing is on check that press when in game............ [WIN logo & G]

Nothing at all, I'm beyond confused as to why this isn't working =/ When I launch the game (PLAYGTAV.exe) it opens the launcher and shows me in steam as playing GTAV, however once the launcher closes and launches the actual game it stops working at this point.

ok if you're gta install is anything like mine go to C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V then check this out first i know that GTAVLanuncher is not running in administrator mode
that's good now check that GTA5 and PlayGTAV does not have administrator mod on and is GTAVLanuncher if yes then steam overlay will work for that so add GTA5 to steam library hopefully that works
