[FIX] Resolution Change
This game didn't work on my brother's computer, it got an "Invalid Input" message on the monitor which was output by the monitor itself. Being that I used to have similar problems, I knew this was a problem with either the resolution or the refresh rate on the game. Checking the games files, I found the following file:

Sniper - Art of Victory\Data\VideoSettings.scr

This changes the settings for the game's graphics settings. The default in my version of the game was 1028x768 85fps. This was shown by two lines:

Resolution(1024,768)
MaxRefresh(85)

To resolve the issue, check the resolution your computer screen runs using the resolution settings in your graphics card properties or in Windows' own properties for your display and take note.

Once done, comment the two lines above out by adding // to the start of them (or delete them) then save the file then copy both those lines, filling in the correct settings. I used:

Resolution(1600,1200)
MaxRefresh(60)

Because I only allow installations to the install folder using the administrator account on my local machine, you may need to elevate notepad to Administrator or set the permissions in the security tab on the file to be editable by the current user to save the file.

Once the file is saved, boot up the game and see if it doesn't work. If not, you can uncomment the lines in the file to return to defaults or you can play with those settings as you need.

Hopefully this helps people get the game up and running.

Good luck and happy sniping.

Hi there,

I had a very similar problem and I managed to fix it through the config files as well. I don't have the configuration files in front of me at the moment but what happens when the screen goes blank? Does an error message appear from your monitor? Did you try running the program in windowed mode (I'm pretty sure there was an option for that in the config files I mentioned)?

Good luck getting any support from either of the two companies CI won't support it due to it's age. In any case, I remember contacting them about this very issue previously and they told me to reinstall the game...

jimbo8098 was correct in his post except he forgot to say that a .scr file is for the loading intro video for the game. The reason your screen goes black is the settings like he said you will need a free program such as NotePad++ text editor to open and edit the .scr file with the correct settings from your video card I run 1920x1080 60hz. Anyone wants the free program to see the game intro video get it here: http://notepad-plus-plus.org/ then edit the Sniper - Art of Victory\Data\VideoSettings.scr file with it. Or you can just hit the space key to skip the intro video your game will play but crappy graphics unless you correct the settings. Remeber this game is from 2008..... Have a nice day :) FH

There are more tham one file's effecting video behavior in this game. Like I said above the game is from 2008, the file r_device in the Art of Victory\ main folder comtains a list of video cards and vendors with a 0 unknown line that will force you to very low resolution ingame. I edited that file and added in my GTX 770 clasified, now I can enable the 3d option. I have manged to get AnisotropicFiltering support and am working on trying to get Ultra settings available. To bad one must go through all this work to get a good sniping graphics....

Thanks jimbo8098, works well. There's some other settings there also worth tweaking for maximum performance, as well as AudioSettings.scr; I don't seem to have any audio loudness settings.

BTW post above, the game needs the file to be called VideoSettings.scr not VideoSettings.txt you can edit the scr with a text editor to make the changes as jimbo8098 and FHZombie1 state. This is common in Techland chrome engine games.

BTW, any one know of a tweaking guide for this or the chrome engine 2 (which this apparently uses)? I don't see much in the guides section...

why hasnt steem fixed this game yet?
jimbo8098 Dec 1, 2017 @ 7:39am
It's not steams job to fix it, it's the Devs who have long since stopped supporting it no doubt.

In fairness, the game is years old now. If it helps, there's some graphics settings in the same file if I remember rightly but there's no documenation on them or anything else in that file.
