Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Have you tried all the steps in the Support FAQ[forums.starcontrol.com]?

Some things I would like you to try:

-Run Steam as Administrator

Exit Steam completely by right clicking it's icon on your taskbar. Next, right click the icon on your taskbar, then right click where it lists Steam, and select Run as Administrator.

-Run the Game executable directly

Go to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Control - Origins\Game

(or where you have the game actually installed)

And run: StarControl_DX11.exe directly.

-Delete settings

Please go to:

\Documents\My Games\Star Control

rename: settings.ini

to: settings.old

And try to run the game again

Thank you for your patience and patronage.

i honestly dont know what to do and would apriciate some real help.

What about the pagefile settings? Did you check that?
https://forums.starcontrol.com/491043/star-control-origins-support-faq#pagefile

I need to know exactly what method you have tried to see what else I can suggest.

just checked. everything according to the pictures in the faq

i tried reinstalling, checking data integrety, checking program integrety, variing graphic settings, overriding the games graphic with dxgl and forcing output, mapping data output (wich resultet in just the game outputting the loadingscreen every five seconds), running the game in a vitual drive, resseting the settings, running it directly, overriding the launcher, using admin mode on both steam and the game, using windows compatibility modes and launching the game from the safe mode.

its on windows 10 so my means are a little limited.

interesting though, i encountered the same issue on my laptop at the and of its service time. i assumed it was because the laptop was already to damaged in sense of software, to run the game, it was one of the reasons i took it out of service. hence i am surprised to see this issue return.

the laptop was also windows 10 and had an old nvidia graphics and a intel i3.

im sorry that you found my answer inssuficient. i will try to answer more specific from now on.

i hope that my answer is of use to you and we can figure out where the issue lies.

so in a stroke of smartness i found something:
the runlog
heres what it says

Nitrous Error: XML Parse Error: unexpected end of data

the last line implies that the game is searching for a file or subroutine that doesnt exist anymore, but sadly it doesnt specify what it was expecting at this point.

i will continue searching for clues. maybe you can do something out of it.
Gilyoshida Jan 10, 2021 @ 1:11pm
found the missing piece of data, or at least what is missing:

we have error logs with thousands of lines with the following

Error:
D:\StarControl_BM\Main\Libs\UI\Src\UI_Functions.cpp Line: 404
XML Parse Error: unexpected end of data

it seems it cant load some of the main menu functions

possible explanations?

Have you tried purging and reinstalling? Also, I recommend whitelisting both Steam and the game with any anti-virus program you may have. Steam preferably before reinstalling.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

First, and for a test, turn of Steam Cloud for the game:
https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/2021-01-11_09-02-53.png

After, delete the settings.ini from:
\Documents\My Games\Star Control

Try to run the game.

Should if fail, open the settings.ini in notepad. Change:

doEmulateFullscreenBorderlessWindow = 0

To:

doEmulateFullscreenBorderlessWindow = 1

Try to run the game.

Should that fail. go into the DLC tab and uncheck all the DLC that is there:

https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/2021-01-11_09-09-12.png

Try to run the game again.

If it runs, try adding back one DLC at a time and see if any cause an issue.

(i do not have any dlcs so i overwent the last part.)
sadly none of that worked. however. further examining the logs i postet earlyer and checking the ones i have now (theyre basicly the same) it seems like there is some sort of mayor malfunction in the games xml structure wich seems to render it unable to pass the loading screen. in the log above we can see the prompt stopping the process of loading the game with an xml parse error and provides the cause "unexpected end of data". since i have experience with xml programming from civilisation 4 i know that this error is a result of a script that is cut off or for the system incomprehandble for some reason.

now i do have a theory.
the game clearly works for other people meaning it isnt something with the game
the game does not only dont work on this pc, meaning it isnt my pc
the game does not work after redownload, meaning it isnt because of bad web connection while downloading.

could it be that the version of the game on the download server im downloading it from is damaged and therby the version i downloaded three times now?
im in germany and download from the server: germany Berlin
this is espacially a problem for me, because im in a small german town and dont have an lan connection, because we recently moved, so i have a small prepaid card powered webstick, wich makes download of large games extremly costly.
to be honest i cant download the game again, so i will now just leave it on my drive in the state it is.

thank you for your answers and trying to help me. i hope we can find the origin of the problem.
Paul

PS: im really sorry for my bad english

Hello,

Your video drivers are almost a year old, I would like to try having you update them:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/80939/Graphics

Also, you seem to be on the opt-in build. If you opt-out, does it run then?
